Made famous by New Jersey's legendary Action Park, this authentic Battle Action Tank is #6 of only 10 tanks believed to have been built for the park in the early 1980s. Action Park, located in Vernon, New Jersey, operated from 1978 through 1996 and became nationally known as one of America's wildest and most dangerous amusement parks. The park was divided into Waterworld, Alpine Center and Motorworld, with the Battle Action Tanks being one of the most memorable attractions in Motorworld.
Today, Action Park is remembered by fans as "Accident Park" and "Class Action Park." The park's outrageous history was later documented in the 2020 feature-length documentary Class Action Park, which explores the incredible story behind the notorious New Jersey amusement and water park.
The Battle Action Tanks were small, motorized military-style tanks designed and built by Action Park employees. According to research conducted by Action Park Motorworld historian Jeff Brazer, the tanks were designed by Mike Kraemer and built by Bob Garby. Only 10 Battle Action Tanks were reportedly produced, making surviving examples extremely rare pieces of Action Park memorabilia and vintage amusement park history.
Guests could climb inside the chain-link enclosure, operate the miniature tanks and fire tennis balls from the tank-mounted air cannon at targets on competing tanks. When a tank was hit, it would stop and spin in a circle for approximately 15 seconds, creating the chaotic experience that helped make Action Park legendary.
Tank #6 was originally restored by Robert Gleason of Butler, New Jersey, with the restoration completed in January 2022. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased the tank in May 2026 and subsequently invested $7,038.74 in documented service and detailing. October 2026 marks the first time MS CLASSIC CARS has offered this historic Action Park Battle Tank for sale.
The restoration was completed with close attention to the original appearance and specifications. The original fiberglass body was stripped, prepared and painted in the correct camouflage colors. The original steel mesh cage was restored and painted, including the identifying number 6. The cage operates on tracks for entry and exit, with MS CLASSIC CARS installing a new latch mechanism and rear bumper stops.
The original targets were restored and painted, while the original plywood side panels were replaced with new plastic panels and finished with realistic details. The original steel bumpers were refinished and powder coated, and new old-stock rubber bumper mounts were installed.
The cabin was restored in matching camouflage colors and fitted with a traction floor mat. The original air-operated black cannon remains fully functional and fires one tennis ball at a time. Air tanks are filled according to usage, and three new tennis balls are included.
Mechanical upgrades include a new Kohler Command Pro CH395 277cc engine rated at 9.5 horsepower with electric start. The hydraulic drive system uses two hydraulic pumps and 23 hydraulic hoses. Additional work included a new battery and cables, starter, charging lugs, power and drive switches, fabricated air cleaner, throttle and exhaust lever, fuel system modifications and more.
The original chassis was restored and painted in the correct gray finish, with new identical metal tubs fabricated, painted and installed. The tank rides on two white steel wheels with Turf Rider 16x6.50-8 tires.
This is far more than a miniature tank — it is an authentic piece of Action Park history and one of the rarest surviving examples of the legendary Motorworld Battle Action Tank attraction.
