"The original, mid-1960s Shelby GT350 began life as a Mustang that
was built by Ford to a certain equipment standard, then sent to the
Shelby American for a spa treatment. Carroll Shelby's hot rodders
added bolt on, go faster parts for the engine and suspension, a few
splashy bits to make it look racier, a Shelby ID number, those
iconic Shelby stripes from nose to tail, and the rest is muscle car
history. Fast forward to today, and, well, not much has changed."
Car and Driver, September 2008
For consignment, a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT with a title
verified 21,951 actual miles. Headers, cam, modified intake and a
Vortech supercharger is a spicy little recipe that results in
471.87 dyno proven horsepower on this blue wonder.
Exterior
Vista Blue was a new color for Shelby in 2008 and it's an obvious
nod to the heritage of Guardsman Blue, here featuring silver taped
stripes that flow from stem to stern and help identify this breed
with rocker panel stripes. Rows of horizontal strakes make up the
grille with the wire connectors of the hood pins making their way
through, not far from the graphic representation of the car's
generation number. Shifting our attention to the back reveals
smoked tail lights, the Shelby faux gas cap, and girthy exhaust
tips that almost guarantee some great sound based on looks alone!
19-inch Shelby CS5 wheels are fantastic here in argent gray and put
away those checkbooks because these are ZR rated meats with a late
2022 date code. Now, they are not without some curb rash, but are
great at allowing the blue brake calipers to be exposed to the
world. Other imperfections include a few minor scratches and chips
in the silver stripe, chin scrapes, and some other scuffs and
chips.
Interior
Familiar S197 door panels don't veer from the GT car and we're
happy to report that the vinyl inserts show some normal lumpiness
but are fully attached at this point. Supportive black leather tall
buckets show in great shape as does the 2+2 in back, all amongst
monochromatic black surroundings. From the steering wheel forward,
you'll feel like a mere mortal, but turn to the right and catch the
added triple gauge cluster above the coveted Shelby plate with CSM
number and Las Vegas production noted. From there, an AM/FM/CD
player is integrated into the center stack above A/C controls that
look like F1 knobs. A cueball handle tops the stout shifter in the
center console and Shelby branded mats cover the black carpet. The
solid roofed car has a perfect headliner and the gray paneled trunk
looks unused.
Drivetrain
Here's the magic, a 4.6 liter 3 valve V8 with a Vortech V3
supercharger and Comp Cams NSR cams and when mixed with Fore fuel
rails, it's a recipe that delivers 471.87 horsepower to the
dynamometer. Behind it, a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission
that routes power to the Ford 8.8" rear with 3.73 gears and
TracLoc.Kooks headers undoubtedly help with breathing and
horsepower and are on board to start the exhaust process.
Undercarriage
Minor signs of some driving are present but overall this is a very
clean and dry underside. Beyond the headers, the dual exhaust
travels through original equipment to those pipes in back. Baer
brakes supply the power disc units on all four wheels and
suspension includes Macpherson struts in front and a 3 link with
coil springs and a panhard bar in back.
Drive-Ability
The bump up from 319 horsepower is noticeable and the exhaust note
hints at the power within. Beyond that, this is a streetable GT
with a beast under the hood, ready to release the kraken with a
blip of the throttle and a movement of the joystick. Not
surprisingly, all functions operate on this low mileage example.
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
We think Eddie Money said it best; "With all the power you're
releasing, it isn't safe to walk the city streets alone.
Anticipation is running through me, let's find the key and turn
this engine on." If you can relate, give us a call.
