It’s hard to miss this one! While any 1936 Chevrolet is an eye catcher, this modified example really takes it up a few notches. With its brilliant orange paint, chrome accents, tinted windows, and modern running gear it draws plenty of attention. And with a comfortable leather interior, updated gauges, and air conditioning it offers an enjoyable ride as well (which is not always the case with hot rods).
The body on this Chevy has a number of subtle modifications. The bumpers and door handles have been removed to put the car’s beautiful shape on full display. A set of running lights / turn signals has been integrated into the lower front fenders, while the fuel door was altered along with the frenched taillights. A sleek third brake light has been installed as well. The entire body is finished in orange along with discrete pinstriping with flame tips. It looks fantastic though a few localized paint cracks are noted. Many of the outstanding 1936 design elements remain including the fabulous front grille with chrome surround, headlights, engine cover trim, and running boards. The chrome Ion wheels and tinted windows complete the look.
Both hood sections can be opened to reveal the robust Blueprint Engines 350ci V8 that includes their proprietary aluminum heads and wears many chrome or polished components. There are also headers feeding a dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers and chrome tips. The transmission is a TH350 automatic which is followed by a 10-bolt GM rear end. Other mechanical upgrades include a Camaro style front stub, power steering, power front disc brakes with a dual reservoir master cylinder, and front / rear stabilizer bars. It is a far cry from 1936!
Looking inside reveals the custom light tan interior. The leather seats have pleated center sections and are very comfortable with seat belts all around. The embossed door panels contain custom arm rests, power window switches, and billet door / vent window handles. Note the contoured headliner too. Dashboard features include an aluminum instrument cluster with Stewart Warner gauges, Vintage Air HVAC controls, and a Kenwood radio with Bluetooth. A tilt steering column is present along with an underdash storage compartment. All lights and turn signals work properly as do the horn, windshield wipers, and parking brake. Two remote door poppers are also included.
Hot rods come in many shapes and sizes. Many of them might look as nice as this car, but many are also uncomfortable and difficult to drive. This build has been done right to ensure a great looking car that can also be enjoyed on the street. It might bring a little too much attention for some, but we think it is just right.
