The Morgan Motor Company Limited is a British car manufacturer that
was founded all the way back in 1910. They are a unique small
company located in Malvern employing only 220 people. The are still
making cars all these years later but have retained their
experience in limited production vehicles making approximately 630
car per year as of 2025. They are also unusual in the fact that
wood from the ash tree has been used in their construction for a
century. This 1962 is the +4 roadster that was delivered in July of
1962. A limited number were sold in the US so those still in
existence in the states is unknown. This one is a very clean
example that was totally restored in 2008. It has been kept very
original and is very clean. These had a handcrafted aluminum body
over an ash wood frame. The body is all solid and painted in a nice
combination of British Racing Green with Black fenders. The chrome
grill has a beautiful shine and sits behind the chrome bumper which
has a bumper mounted center light and the very cool "Morgan Sports
Car Club" medallion. It is primarily driven as a roadster but there
is a Black cloth top which raises and fits nicely in place. The car
has a great stance and rides on a set of spoke wheels which are
true knock offs which you don't see often. It also has the very
cool rear mounted spare that is inset into the body.
As you might have guessed from the name under that 4 piece hood
sits an Inline 4 motor. It runs great and has been fitted with twin
carburetors and a chrome valve cover. That is then paired with a 4
speed manual transmission that shifts smooth and makes it very fun
to drive. The brakes and suspension are all the stock set up but
were totally gone through during the restoration.
The interior does house 2 seats which is a bench but it has a split
bottom. That split allows for the transmission hump and the floor
shifter has a wood grain shifter knob. The dash is all wood grain
as well and topped with all your gauges and controls. It also
features the standard open glove box. The 3 spoke wood grain
steering wheel is in excellent condition and this car is the left
hand drive version.
This car runs and drives great. It gets a ton of attention with
most people not being able to identify it at first. Being that the
car was sent in 1962 to Fergus Motors, a historic New York
Importer, it is one of the models built specifically for a customer
in the US. It would make a great addition to any collection.
