GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1974 Triumph TR6
Convertible finished in its factory Sapphire Blue Metallic over a
Shadow Blue interior. Showing 61,436 miles, this TR6 is a
particularly appealing example that combines remarkably
well-preserved original cosmetics with an extensive, professionally
completed mechanical and performance rebuild. With a documented
ownership history, original body and sheet metal, and its
numbers-matching inline-six engine, this British roadster offers an
excellent balance of originality and improved driving
performance.
According to the vehicle's documented history, this TR6 changed
hands just twice between its original purchase and 2007, with the
second owner acquiring it in 1976 and the third in 2007. Throughout
much of its life, the car was enthusiast-owned, carefully
maintained, and stored in climate-controlled environments. The
Sapphire Blue Metallic paint is reported to be factory original, as
is the Shadow Blue interior. The original frame, body panels, sheet
metal, and unrestored undercarriage further contribute to the car's
desirable originality. Exterior details include factory-style
wheels with redline tires, chrome bumpers, British flag fender
badges, and a black convertible soft top.
In 2008, the original inline-six engine underwent a comprehensive
mechanical and performance rebuild performed by Bob Kolenda of Fox
Motorsports, LLC. The work included a performance camshaft, ported
and polished cylinder head, new valves, guides, seats, bearings,
gaskets, pistons, rings, and a performance balancing kit. The
project also included a rebuilt manual transmission, new clutch
assembly, rebuilt carburetors, upgraded ignition components, brake
calipers, and suspension work. More than $17,000 was invested in
the mechanical restoration at the time, with detailed receipts
documenting the work performed and components installed.
Following the rebuild, the Triumph was driven approximately 1,200
miles before returning to private collection use. The upgraded
engine and refreshed drivetrain were intended to deliver stronger
performance and improved drivability while preserving the character
of the original TR6. Under the hood, the inline-six retains a
clean, period-appropriate presentation with its distinctive
dual-carburetor setup. Power is delivered to the rear wheels
through a traditional floor-shifted manual transmission.
The interior retains its distinctive Shadow Blue upholstery,
complemented by a wood-veneer dashboard, classic Smiths-style
instrumentation, and a wood-trimmed shift knob. The bucket seats,
door panels, and interior trim maintain the period character of the
car, while an upgraded sound system with CD and USB connectivity
adds a modern convenience. The black folding convertible top allows
for open-air driving, making this TR6 an enjoyable choice for
weekend cruising, local shows, and scenic drives.
Accompanying the vehicle are its original driver's handbook,
original owner information, and extensive documentation detailing
the mechanical rebuild. The previous listing also noted an original
full tonneau cover, original center console with factory stereo,
and replacement window felts awaiting installation. The original
exhaust and bias-ply redline tires were previously noted as
available separately; their current inclusion should be
confirmed.
The Triumph TR6 remains one of the most recognizable British sports
cars of its era, appreciated for its long-hood styling, torquey
inline-six engine, and engaging manual driving experience. This
example stands apart through its reported original paint and
interior, documented ownership history, and substantial investment
in mechanical improvements. For an enthusiast seeking a classic
British roadster that retains its original character while
benefiting from extensive mechanical attention, this Sapphire Blue
TR6 is well worth consideration.
