This 1965 Ford Mustang GT fastback is powered by its original
VIN-stamped K-code 289/271hp High-Performance V8 engine paired with
a factory Toploader four-speed manual transmission and original
Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.50 gears. The engine retains its
K-code-specific components, including the carburetor, solid-lifter
camshaft, Hi-Po cylinder heads, radiator, harmonic balancer,
exhaust manifolds and distributor. Factory GT equipment includes
fog lights, dual exhaust, front disc brakes and quick-ratio manual
steering. Scheduled for production on June 3, 1965, this Mustang
was originally a California car before being placed in storage in
North Carolina in 1980, where it remained for 42 years until
acquired by the consignor in 2022. A comprehensive nut-and-bolt
restoration to factory-original specifications was completed in May
2026. The body was stripped to bare metal and retains its original
floors, quarter-panels, doors, hood, trunk lid, frame rails, inner
fender aprons, roof, trunk drop-offs, trunk pan, rocker panels and
other original body panels. The underbody is properly finished in
red oxide primer, consistent with factory-original specifications.
Original and NOS components were utilized throughout the
restoration where available. The exterior is finished in its
original Code K Silver Smoke Gray with red GT stripes, complemented
by a Code 26 Black Standard interior. It rides on Styled Steel
wheels fitted with dual redline radial tires. The restoration is
documented with photographs showing the vehicle before and during
restoration, along with restoration receipts.
