Following the Plymouth Barracuda (which was introduced in 1964), the new-for-1970 Dodge Challenger was priced and engineered as a competitor to the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird. Positioned as a higher-end model in the segment, the Challenger was offered with a vast array of Inline-6 and V8 engine options and in either base or R/T (Road/Track) trim levels to ensure it appealed to plenty of buyers. Naturally, numerous optional extras enhancing the comfort, performance, or appearance of the car were available to allow buyers to tailor their cars for their needs.

With instantly recognizable styling by Carl Cameron (who also penned the 1966 Charger) and the availability of the legendary 426ci 'Hemi' V8, the Challenger's status as an icon of American muscle was essentially assured from day one. Buyers who chose the more performance-focused R/T enjoyed the Rallye instrument cluster (150-mph speedometer, three-speed wipers, and wood-grain surround), bucket seats, a handling-focused suspension, and much more as standard. While various V8s were offered with outputs starting at 335hp, the top of the engine lineup was the 426ci 'Hemi' V8. With dual four-barrel carburetors and hemispherical combustion chambers, the Hemi was rated at 425 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque. It is no wonder Hemi-equipped Challengers gained iconic status amongst enthusiasts worldwide and are now some of the most desirable vehicles of their era.

According to marque expert, Galen V. Govier, the investment-grade 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Hardtop Coupe is one of just 287 factory-equipped with the legendary 426ci Hemi V8. Finished in Black with matching Black vinyl bucket seats, the original window sticker lists desirable options including 15-inch Rallye Road wheels and the Super Track Pack (power brakes, Sure-Grip differential, heavy-duty Dana 60 rear axle, 26-inch performance radiator, and related enhancements). It was also equipped with the TorqueFlite three-speed automatic, locking gas cap, 'Music Master' AM radio, and stripe delete.

Built on 5 February 1970 at the Hamtramck, Michigan plant, the car was delivered new to Harry Miller Garage in Hudson, South Dakota. Early in its life the original engine block was replaced under warranty; Govier has confirmed the replacement block is correct and of the same year (produced 30 January 1970). A professional, no-expense-spared rotisserie restoration has returned the car to outstanding condition inside and out. Accompanied by its original window sticker, production broadcast sheet, Govier Registry entry, and Decoding Report, this exceptionally rare and well-documented first-year Challenger R/T Hemi represents one of the most desirable early examples of the model. Offered to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own one of the very best an investment price!
