Few contemporary supercars punch as much above their weight class
as the McLaren 720S. Unveiled at the 2017 Geneva International
Motor Show as the latest expression of McLaren's Super Series, the
720S was reportedly 91 percent new compared to its predecessor. At
its core was the new MonoCage II carbon fiber monocoque chassis, an
exceptionally rigid and lightweight skeleton that would also
underpin the later 765LT and 750S. The 720S' other major offering
was the new M840T 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that produced an
extraordinary 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, delivered to
the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Introduced in late 2018, the 720S Spider gave this formidable
package some air as McLaren's new flagship convertible. Its
retractable hardtop could be fully raised or lowered in just 11
seconds at speeds up to 31 mph, and the conversion required only
modest chassis revisions and an additional 108 pounds. The 720S'
sensational performance was preserved, with McLaren quoting the
Spider as able to sprint from zero to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds on the
way to a top speed of 212 mph with the roof raised.
Although generously equipped as standard, the 720S Spider was also
offered in premium Performance and Luxury specifications that
further elevated the supercar. Both added distinct exterior
details, engine bay lighting, and ambient cockpit illumination, but
differed in their interior upholstery and appointments.
This 2020 McLaren 720S Spider sports the Luxury trim package,
featuring a full Vintage Tan leather interior complete with
power-adjustable heated seats to complement its stunning MSO
Volcano Red exterior finish. Its accompanying window sticker
reveals a host of desirable options that amount to almost $65,000.
Multiple Carbon Fiber Exterior Upgrade packages play off the MSO
paint and are further complemented by the Stealth Pack and 10-spoke
Lightweight Forged Wheels. Carbon fiber further permeates the
cockpit, which sits beneath the premium Electrochromic Roof that
switches between tinted and clear at the push of a button.
Additional desirable upgrades include the Sports Exhaust, 360
Degree Park Assist, and Bowers & Wilkins 12-speaker Surround Sound
System.
According to its clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this
well-optioned 720S Spider was delivered new to McLaren Newport
Beach in August 2019 and was sold to its sole owner in Long Beach,
California, the following month. While the CARFAX does report one
subsequent owner in August 2023, this was in fact due to a
reporting error when the owner relocated to a new address; the car
has remained under the care of the consignor since new.
The car has been exclusively and annually maintained by McLaren
Newport Beach from new, with invoices on file documenting work
through its six-year scheduled service, which was conducted in
November 2025 and consisted of an oil change and brake fluid flush.
Notably, the rear end sustained a minor cosmetic scuff while
maneuvering out of a garage in 2021, which has since been
repaired.
Showing just 5,248 miles at cataloging, this stunning 2020 McLaren
720S Spider Luxury is offered today with an exceptional service
record and roster of options that make it a standout example of
McLaren's formidable convertible supercar.
