"Life consist of many moments; great and small, short and long. So
shouldn't we enjoy each one to the utmost? It was with this in mind
that we built the CLK-Class. And reason enough for us to present
the CLK Coupe' and the CLK Cabriolet, two Mercedes vehicles that
are not only particularly good looking, but also, thanks to their
attractive range of engines, highly dynamic." From the 2007 dealer
brochure.
For consignment a 2005 CLK350 with a title verified 55,962 actual
miles. This sports convertible offers Mercedes quality, a luxurious
interior, and soft, rounded exterior lines, veering from the Benz
propensity of previous generation for boxy cars with lots of right
angles.
Exterior
Diamond Silver Metallic adorns this car with quality, two stage
coverage like a vat of liquid mercury. Nearly seamless in its
design with integrated round headlights which melt right into the
front and border the familiar grille and its prominent three point
star. A black canvas top is in good shape, holding a glass window
in the back, and we do note some small tears and seam repairs. On
either side a rounded chrome spear catches your eyes while flush
tail lights in back harken Mercedes design with horizontal reverse
lenses while a third brake light is perched on the decklid. 17-inch
multi spoke wheels with some curb rash repair on all four and
scratches, combine sportiness with luxury and are wrapped in 45
series tires. With the top down, the hard tonneau cover hints at
fairings with slight humps behind each rear seat. Other
imperfections noted include chips, inclusions, off color paint at
the rocker, scuffs, rear bumper "kisses," light blistering on door
bottom, and chin scrapes.
Interior
For the inside a nice mixture of gathered black leather, molded
plastic and vinyl along with a peppering of wood accenting is noted
in the doors and center console. Robust deep bucket seats are
positioned in front and a 2+2 bench is in back, all in black
leather and all in very nice condition. This handsome design
carries through to the dash where instruments present clearly in
platinum and white under the semicircular dash top and matching
circumference steering wheel with a firm, black rubber rim. Warm
and glossy burl wood framing surrounds the AM/FM/CD radio on the
center stack along with the climate panel and upper control
switchgear, finally flowing down to the center console where the
shifter of obvious quality rises from a leather boot. Black
carpeting floods the floors protected by rubber mats and the trunk
is finished and clean.
Drivetrain
Under the hood hidden within the confines of a clean engine bay is
a mostly shrouded 3.5 liter DOHC V6 rated at 268 horsepower and
fuel injected. A 7gTronic 7-speed automatic sends power to a 2.82
final drive axle in the rear.
Undercarriage
Clean driver quality with lots of aerodynamic coverings on the
underside that includes minimal surface rust and no errant fluid or
grease. Single exhaust runs through an original equipment muffler
just before exiting via a chrome tip. Independent McPherson strut
suspension is upfront, and independent coil sprung suspension on
back.Naturally, power disc brakes are employed front and rear.
Drive-Ability
We take our comfortable seats and were torn between the sheer
luxury of the interior and the potential sportiness of the ride.
Impressive acceleration and handling accompanies this personal
luxury car with enough room for the family. The solid "thunk" of
the door is met with a solid chassis. No rattles, no creaks, just
straight forward and purposeful driving pleasure during which every
functional item worked as intended. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Here's a taste of class and luxury at a bargain price, wearing the
coveted three pointed star and a deep coat of silver paint. You
could save this for topless weekend drives or easily put this into
service every day. Hard to believe it's almost 20 years old as its
quality and style seem still relevant today.
