"When you test a true sports car it's best to jump in with both
feet and speak one's mind up front. Simply stated, the Boxster
based Cayman is one heck of a good set of wheels. It's stylish,
blending the best of the 911 and Boxster lines in a well
proportioned body. It's also incredibly well balanced. Take a very
stiff chassis, a dialed in suspension, and a great set of Michelin
tires and you have a pile of demons." From the Motoring video
review.
For consignment, a 2006 Porsche Cayman S couple with a title
verified 84,074 actual miles. Motorweek summed up their review by
saying, "In a nutshell, the Cayman S is indeed an absolute ball to
drive, and performance does closely shadow the 911. Yet it
maintains the stripped down sports car attitude of the
Boxster."
Exterior
There's a body line seen in profile that starts at the headlights
and flows back to become flared fenders over the rear wheels, then
blending seamlessly into the rear bumper, a distinct feature that
reveals the Boxster base, but also something entirely new. Tail
lights are flush and conform to the curvature of the fenders, while
intake ducts on the rear quarter panels follow the lines of the
door gap, opening like a fan. A modest retracted spoiler hovers
over center exit exhaust and all is surrounded by Arctic Silver
Metallic paint complemented by matching 19-inch multi spoke wheels
tucked neatly in the openings and wrapped in Continental low
profile tires with a date code of early 2023 on front and early
2022 in back. Imperfections include rock chips up front, flex
cracks on the front apron, chin scrapes reaching rearward, other
chips throughout, and some scuffs.
Interior
The door panels are bathed in smooth black leather with contoured
door handles and carpeted lowers and both doors present in very
nice condition. High back black leather bucket seats are also in
good shape while up front, ode is paid to its 550 heritage in the
font used on the three white faced gauges ahead of the taut
steering wheel. The center stack has a fully integrated AM/FM/Multi
CD player and push button A/C panel and a leather boot wraps the
well executed shifter in the console. High quality black carpet is
found in the footwell, the back wall, and along the package tray
and cargo area in back, all in decent shape and our black headliner
is nice. The front trunk, commonly known as the frunk, is also in
near showroom condition.
Drivetrain
Planted midway is a 3.4 liter flat six cylinder, fuel injected of
course and rated at a healthy 295 horsepower. It is mated to a
6-speed manual transmission and power is kept in back and routed
through 3.875 gears.
Undercarriage
Aerodynamic belly pans take up most of the underside where we find
clean, driver quality conditions. Dual exhaust flows through
factory headers and its original equipment system towards its exit
via fused dual tips. Four wheel power disc brakes are on board, and
the fully independent suspension is populated with Macpherson
struts.
Drive-Ability
Ergonomically speaking, there aren't many cars that get it this
right! You really do become one with the car. The flat six provides
fantastic power, the ZR rated tires provide great grip, and the
suspension does its job in keeping the car level around turns. The
Porsche does everything well and all functions work as they should.
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
You only need two things to join the coveted Porsche Club of
America. That's a VIN number of a true Porsche, and of course, the
car it is attached to. Once in the exclusive club, you'll benefit
from regular meetings and events, technical assistance and
information, and the thing no other car club can claim, Porsche
ownership. While Boxster and Caymans might be going away, they'll
always be regarded as some of the most balanced sports cars ever
built, by Porsche or any other manufacturer.
Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and
