Description
There are Aston Martin Vanquish S examples that have simply
accumulated service records, and then there are cars whose
histories demonstrate a sustained effort to keep them properly
sorted. This 2006 Vanquish S falls firmly into the latter
category.
Showing 42,232 miles today, this example is accompanied by an
unusually extensive record of maintenance spanning years of
ownership. The documentation illustrates considerably more than
routine oil changes and scheduled servicing; it records a
continuing program of preventative maintenance, diagnosis, repair,
and replacement of age-related components as necessary. Numerous
mechanical and electrical concerns that can arise as these cars age
have already received attention, making the history of this
particular Vanquish S one of its most compelling attributes.
The invoices document substantial work to the car's braking,
steering, suspension, cooling, electrical and driveline-related
systems over time. Among the work recorded are attention to items
including brake components and hydraulics, steering components,
suspension links and related hardware, cooling-system servicing,
transmission-related diagnosis and repairs, ignition components,
batteries and charging-system concerns, oil and fluid leaks, hoses,
belts and other ancillary components. The records also show
repeated inspections and preventative servicing rather than
maintenance being deferred until larger problems developed.
In other words, this is not a car whose appeal rests solely on
mileage or cosmetic presentation. A considerable amount of the
expensive sorting associated with owning an aging hand-built Aston
Martin has already been undertaken during its documented
history.
Adding considerably to the experience is a Quicksilver exhaust
system. The upgrade suits the character of the Vanquish S
particularly well, allowing the naturally aspirated V12 to take a
more prominent role in the driving experience without detracting
from the grand-touring character of the automobile. The resulting
sound is one of our favorite aspects of the car.
Just as impressive is its completeness. The Vanquish S is
accompanied by two organized binders, one dedicated to its
extensive service and maintenance history and another containing
its accompanying literature and accessories. Included are extra
keys and key fobs/remotes, an Aston Martin cigarette lighter, tow
hook, tire-pressure equipment, battery-related literature, a
Vanquish S technical guide, Vanquish S sales brochure, owner's
manual, clean Carfax and AutoCheck reports, and additional
documentation.
The car further retains its battery charger, factory umbrella in
the luggage compartment, first-aid kit, two tire-inflator
canisters, and other accompanying equipment. It is the sort of
completeness that becomes increasingly difficult to find as these
cars change hands over the course of two decades.
Cosmetically, the Aston presents exceptionally well. Paint-meter
readings are consistent throughout the body, and the finish
presents to an excellent standard. More recently, the car underwent
approximately $5,000 in additional cosmetic reconditioning,
including a comprehensive top-to-bottom detail together with
careful restoration of the leather on the dashboard and rear
headrest. The objective was preservation rather than reinvention,
addressing the details necessary to bring the presentation in line
with the quality of the car's mechanical history.
The result is a Vanquish S that we regard as a particularly
compelling turnkey driver's example: extensively documented,
exceptionally complete, cosmetically excellent, properly sorted,
and ready to be enjoyed.
For a model where condition and maintenance history can matter
every bit as much as mileage, the depth of documentation and the
sheer amount of thoughtful maintenance performed on this example
distinguish it from the typical Vanquish S. It is a car that
appears to have been maintained with the intention of keeping it
right-not merely keeping it running.
And with its naturally aspirated V12 breathing through the
Quicksilver exhaust, it delivers exactly the kind of experience
that makes the Vanquish S such a special Aston Martin. Definitely
one of the finest examples we have seen or offered!
