About the Grand National
The Grand National name first appeared on the Buick Regal in 1982,
but it was not until 1984 that the now iconic all black Grand
National arrived. Powered by a turbocharged 3.8 liter V6 with
sequential fuel injection, it quietly embarrassed the V8 muscle of
its day.
Intercooling was added in 1986, and in 1987 the Grand National
reached its peak. Rated at 245 horsepower and 355 pound feet of
torque, it ran zero to sixty in 4.9 seconds and covered the quarter
mile in 13.9 seconds, numbers that put it among the quickest
American cars of the decade. 1987 was also the final year of
production, making it the most desirable year for collectors.
Today, a Grand National in this condition represents a moment
frozen in time: the last great American muscle car of the 1980s,
preserved exactly as it was meant to be.
