This 1999 Rover Mini is a charming example of one of Britain's most
recognizable automobiles, combining classic Mini styling with the
refinements introduced during the final years of production.
Finished in a striking metallic blue with a contrasting cream
leather interior, this Mini features the desirable Sportpack
appearance package, giving it a wider, more aggressive stance while
retaining the unmistakable character of the original design.
Exterior highlights include factory-style wheel arch extensions,
13-inch alloy wheels, additional driving lights, chrome bumpers,
and a power-operated sunroof. The combination of deep blue paint,
bright chrome accents, and the Mini's compact proportions makes for
an exceptionally distinctive appearance.
Power comes from a 1,275cc four-cylinder engine equipped with
multi-point fuel injection (MPI), paired with a 4-speed manual
transmission. Introduced during the final years of classic Mini
production, the MPI system provided improved fuel delivery and
drivability compared to earlier carbureted models. The lightweight
construction, short wheelbase, and responsive handling make these
cars particularly entertaining to drive, whether navigating city
streets or enjoying a winding back road. This example received a
new clutch in 2026 and new front rubber suspension cones in 2025.
The owner also reports that the vehicle has been kept well
maintained and garage stored.
Inside, the Mini features an attractive cream leather interior with
contrasting piping, matching door panels, woodgrain dashboard trim,
and a traditional center-mounted instrument arrangement. The
leather seats provide a more upscale feel than earlier utilitarian
Minis, while the woodgrain trim and compact cabin preserve the
unmistakable British character. Additional equipment includes a
functional heater, upgraded radio, auxiliary gauges, and a phone
holder installed in place of the original ashtray. The vehicle also
retains a battery cutoff switch and a tool kit in the trunk. The
owner describes the car as largely original apart from the radio
and ashtray modification.
The original Mini was introduced in 1959 and became a defining
symbol of British automotive design, celebrated for its innovative
transverse-engine layout, remarkable interior packaging, and
impressive motorsport success. Although the design remained
remarkably consistent throughout its production run, later
Rover-built examples benefited from decades of development,
including fuel injection, improved interior appointments, and
additional safety features. Production of the classic Mini
continued through 2000, making this 1999 example one of the final
iterations of the original design.
Late-production Rover Minis are particularly interesting in the
United States because they were never officially marketed here when
new. Instead, examples like this typically reach American
collectors through private importation after becoming eligible
under the federal 25-year vehicle import exemption. This allows
qualifying vehicles to enter the country without having to meet the
federal motor vehicle safety standards applicable when they were
originally manufactured, although import documentation and other
applicable requirements must still be satisfied. As a result,
genuine late-model classic Minis remain relatively uncommon sights
on American roads, offering collectors an opportunity to experience
a piece of British motoring history that was not readily available
in the U.S. market when new.
With its desirable Sportpack styling, fuel-injected 1,275cc engine,
manual transmission, leather interior, and classic British
personality, this 1999 Rover Mini offers a unique combination of
vintage charm and late-production refinement. Whether enjoyed as a
weekend driver, displayed at local car gatherings, or added to a
collection of distinctive European automobiles, this Mini delivers
an experience that few modern vehicles can replicate.
