"Oh sure, Camaro is comfortable as all get out and the heater
works. But that doesn't mean it's a motorized marshmallow. It's a
real driving machine without the old fashioned sports car symptoms
of chilblains, sore bones and sharp shooting pains in the wallet.
Camaro will make a believer out of you if you don't think so. It
has what it takes, including engines up to an exclusive new 350
cubic inch V8 you can order, handling that's just as pure as you
could want, front disc brakes available and all the other earmarks
of a real driving machine." From a 1967 Camaro print ad.
For consignment, a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro hardtop showing 1,410
miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption.
Hold on to your hats, we're about to dissect this pro street
version with a consignor stated 1,800 horsepower!
Exterior
The combination of Sunset Orange Metallic and white painted stripes
is striking enough, but then when you get a look at that enormous
cowl hood and impossibly wide rear wheels, you realize something
wicked this way comes. Beyond the gargantuan features remains the
epic shape of a '67 Camaro, the iconic pony car with the vent
windows, inboard round marker lights, and distinctive rectangular
tail lights, here showing the two color configuration of '68. If
you had doubts about the potency here, you might take note of the
parachute mount and battery shut off on the back. 15-inch Billet
Specialties wheels are wrapped in deeply staggered LT rated tires
that result in a slightly nose down raked stance. Imperfections are
few on this copper beauty include gap issue on the hood and some
minor chips.
Interior
Black plastic door cards look tame enough but turn towards the
inside and that's where dramatic racing bucket seats show up, black
vinyl with white piping residing within the carbon fiber dressed
roll cage and of course, equipped with racing harnesses and it all
presents cleanly. We get fighter jet vibes from the front where the
steering wheel fronts a futuristic Haltech screen and somehow the
center returns to more modern times with an AM/FM/Cassette radio,
all within a body colored dash. A reflective intercooler tube runs
from the firewall and along the passenger's footwell on its way to
the tank behind the seat, while the center console is stacked with
a Cheetah Turbo Action SCS shifter. This ride still has black
carpet and vintage style Camaro rubber mats and the headliner
remains clean and intact. The trunk holds the fuel cell and
battery.
Drivetrain
Okay, here we go. The show worthy engine bay holds a consignor
stated 581ci V8 with a Dart block, Diamond pistons, Billet cranks,
custom roller cam, Procharger, water to air intercooler, Sniper
aluminum heads, a Hogan's metal tunnel ram and dual throttle bodies
for the fuel injection and it's all good for a seller stated 1800
horsepower! But it would be useless without the TH400 3-speed
automatic with a Reed case and reverse manual valve body with power
routed to the Ford 9" in back with 4.36 within a spool differential
and a fabricated housing.
Undercarriage
Clean and race ready underneath where headers lead to enormous dual
exhaust through Borla mufflers and a tandem, center exit. Wilwood
disc brakes are on board and suspension includes Hyperco springs in
conjunction with a Mustang II front end, ladder bars and coil overs
in back, and Strange rear shocks.
Drive-Ability
We start her up and all of Morgantown takes note. On the tarmac,
this gives obvious signs of being the beast that it is while
tracking straight and operating with all the street legal
necessities working as they should. However, the wipers and reverse
lights are not working. The radio does, but we'd rather hear the
engine! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
We'd have to check the records, but if accurate, this may be the
highest horsepower car we've ever had the pleasure of offering here
at Classic Auto Mall. This is a spotless, Pro Street beauty and an
absolute turnkey E ticket to adrenalin filled future rides. Not for
the faint of heart so make sure your statins are up to date!
