15-Inch Front/17-Inch Rear The Volkswagen Bus is one of the most
iconic vehicles of the 1960s. Ask nearly any person who grew up in
this era, and they'll surely have a story about one. As with many
air-cooled VW products, the Buses developed a huge following,
especially when it came to hot rodding and modifications with
considerable aftermarket support to do nearly anything you could
dream of. This 1970 Volkswagen Type II Bus is a custom build that
has been completed at a very high level. Finished in a striking
two-tone combination of dark gray with a silver roof and accents by
Auto Sports International, who also installed polished stainless
steel bumpers and trim. The van sits on 2-inch drop spindles and
4-inch drop plates, and a front air ride system is installed up
front for easier driving in town. New safety glass windows have
been installed along with a custom rear safari window, and chrome
Radar wheels measuring 15-inches up front and 17-inches in the rear
are installed. On the inside, full custom leather upholstery has
been fitted to all three rows of seating, in two-tone black and
light gray, which largely match the exterior finish. German-style
square weave carpet has been fitted, along with a classic 3-spoke
Banjo steering wheel. Sitting out back powering this Bus is a
1,776cc air-cooled flat-4 topped with a pair of carburetors. The
engine bay has been finished with numerous chrome bits including
the fan shroud and air cleaner casings. Power is then sent through
a 4-speed manual gearbox with a Bugpack shifter for more precise
shift action. Any VW Bus is a guaranteed blast from the past for
anybody of a certain generation, and this example is no exception.
With a host of great upgrades and its unique paint scheme, this Bus
is ready to be enjoyed and would make an ideal classic to use with
the whole family! - - -For more information on this 1970 Volkswagen
