Zoom Classic Cars presents this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Restomod with brand new crate 5.3L LS & Tremec 5-Speed. Only 400
miles since installation. This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
is an extremely solid C3 restomod with substantial mechanical and
chassis work already completed. The car retains the iconic styling
of the first-year C3 Corvette while benefiting from a modern 5.3L
crate V8, Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, upgraded suspension,
rack-and-pinion steering, modern braking, improved cooling, air
conditioning, and a host of other upgrades. The 5.3L crate engine
has been professionally dyno tuned and produces an impressive 450
rear-wheel horsepower and 420 lb-ft of rear-wheel torque. Power is
sent through a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission with a McLeod
clutch. A billet serpentine drive system, stainless headers, and a
new Pypes dual exhaust complement the modern V8 installation. The
chassis has received extensive attention. The front suspension was
completely removed and rebuilt, with the control arms blasted and
refinished, new polyurethane bushings and ball joints installed,
and adjustable front coil overs added. Steering has been upgraded
to rack-and-pinion, while the rear suspension utilizes a composite
mono-leaf spring. The 3.36 rear end is complemented by new
heavy-duty rear half shafts and suspension components.Stopping
power has also been upgraded with a Wilwood master cylinder,
stainless steel brake components, performance calipers, and drilled
and slotted rotors. The cooling system has been upgraded with a
large heavy-duty aluminum radiator and electric cooling fan,
providing the capacity needed for the modern V8. Vintage Air air
conditioning has also been installed and blows cold. The owner is
an electrician and has paid particular attention to the electrical
system. All gauges and electrical equipment are reported to be
functioning properly with newly added Haltech Nexus Rebel LS
computer. The computer allows for remote tuning. The battery has
been relocated to the engine compartment from its original location
behind the seats.Soundproofing has also been installed throughout
the car, adding to its comfort and making the Corvette more
enjoyable for cruising. The interior of the car features a Fiero
seat conversion with Corvette-style seat covers, providing improved
seating while maintaining the appropriate Corvette appearance. There
is one known area requiring cosmetic attention behind the passenger
seat where a previous speaker system was installed. The speaker has
been removed, leaving a hole that should be properly patched with
fiberglass. The body is solid and straight, and the car has a very
good foundation for someone looking to complete a cosmetic
restoration. The paint is approximately 6/10 and shows the age and
imperfections expected of a car that has been driven and
mechanically upgraded rather than freshly restored. There are
several cosmetic items that should be addressed. Among them are two
existing screw holes below the driver's-side mirror and the
aforementioned opening behind the passenger seat that requires
fiberglass repair. The undercarriage and birdcage are solid, an
especially important consideration when evaluating an early C3
Corvette. The car has already received extensive mechanical
investment, leaving the next owner with primarily cosmetic work to
complete. The convertible top will need replacement. The existing
top hardware is in place and can be utilized for installation of a
new top.The Corvette is currently fitted with older BFGoodrich
tires and wheels, with the tires showing plenty of usable
tread. This Corvette represents an appealing opportunity for someone
who wants the performance and drivability of a modernized C3
without having to undertake the expensive mechanical work
themselves. The major mechanical systems have already been
addressed, including the engine, transmission, clutch, steering,
suspension, brakes, cooling system, exhaust, air conditioning,
electrical system, and rear suspension. What remains is primarily
cosmetic restoration and finishing work. With its solid body,
straight panels, solid birdcage and undercarriage, and substantial
mechanical upgrades, this 1968 Corvette provides an excellent
foundation for someone who wants to complete the cosmetics and
enjoy a seriously capable C3 convertible. The 1968 model year is
particularly significant as the first year of the third-generation
Corvette, making these cars increasingly desirable among C3
enthusiasts and collectors.Stored in Massachusetts with a clean
title in the owner's name.Call Jeff for more information. Thanks for
