This is the real deal! A genuine SS 396, designated by the L34 code
on its original trim tag. It's been frame-off restored, retains a
correct 396 engine, and has its VIN-matching transmission and
original rear end. Finished in stunning Cortez Silver with a deluxe
interior, factory air conditioning, and desirable options. Only
2,464 SS 396s were built!
EXTERIOR: It's stunning! The body is arrow straight with no signs
of rust or damage. Repainted in its beautiful Cortez Silver, the
finish has an incredible shine and depth that looks like you could
reach right into it! It features front and rear spoilers, sport
mirrors, and additional trim. The blacked-out SS grille and tail
panel give it that unmistakable muscle car appearance. The chrome
bumpers, taillights, door handles, and emblems all look new. The
rubber seals and weatherstrips were replaced, and the door jambs
are painted slick. The wheels have been restored and are wearing
new tires. The windshield and rear window were replaced, and the
glass is tinted.
INTERIOR: I'm sitting inside this car, and it's in fantastic
condition! It features the deluxe interior with woodgrain trim and
custom weave upholstery. In front of me, the dash pad is mint, not
curled up like so many of them. Everything retains its stock
appearance, including the radio-delete setup. The center console is
in excellent condition. The door panels look great, the seats have
been restored, and the carpet is new with GM floor mats. The
headliner is nice and tight, the mirror looks new, and the dome
light works. All the interior trim is in excellent shape. It's a
very clean, well preserved factory style interior.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Restored to factory condition! It has a correct
396 engine with proper casting numbers. Everything looks authentic,
including the stock manifolds, valve covers, air cleaner, and
correct fuel filter. It even has reproduction hoses and clamps.
Desirable features include power steering and power brakes. The
factory air conditioning has just received a major service. All the
metal surfaces are neatly painted, and the components look fresh
and proper. It's a beautifully detailed engine compartment that
retains its original character.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Beautifully refinished and complete! Under the
trunk lid and the jamb are painted glossy Cortez Silver. The
weatherstrip and decal were replaced. Inside is all clean, solid
metal with the correct-style gray and white spatter finish. The
wiring, taillight housings, and rubber trunk mat all look new. It
also includes a complete spare tire and jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: The body was removed from the frame during the
restoration. The front steering and suspension were rebuilt, while
the rear suspension received new bushings and shocks. It features
the F41 sport suspension with sway bars. The correct-style dual
exhaust system includes a transverse muffler. The entire fuel
system was replaced, including the tank, straps, and lines. The
brake system was restored with front disc brakes, and the emergency
brake cables are properly hooked up. Looking up at the engine, it's
spotless! The starter and flywheel cover are new. It retains its
VIN-matching Turbo 400 automatic transmission, complete with its
original identification tag. An extra-capacity finned aluminum
transmission pan was added. The original 12-bolt rear end has been
upgraded with 3.73 Positraction gears. The floors and braces appear
rock solid and are protected by a thin coat of undercoating.
CONCLUSION: Only 2,464 SS 396s were built! This is one
sleek-looking SS with the credentials to back up its appearance. A
genuine L34 car, frame-off restored, with its VIN-matching
transmission, original rear end, factory air conditioning, and
beautiful Cortez Silver finish. It's a desirable combination of
authenticity, quality, and performance. Ready for show and go!
