"The M1123 cargo/troop carrier vehicle is based on the chassis of
the standard Humvee. The vehicle is designed and manufactured by
the American Defence Company AM General. The M1123 HMMWV variant
replaced the M998 and M1038 variant HMMWVs. The M1123 provides
light troop and cargo transportation. Available in two and four
person configurations, this model can accept installation of troop
seats and other modifications. This variant can be used as the
vehicle platform for mobile communication systems as well as other
mobile alternate command posts. The M1123 heavy variant cargo
carrier is capable of transporting a payload, (including crew), of
1,998 kg. The M1123 has been in service in the U.S. army since the
28 April 1985." ARmyrecognition.com
For consignment, a 2009 AM General HMMWV M1123 pickup showing
17,138 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one comes with a
trailer and has been restored with lots of new OEM parts including
everything from the canvas, reinforcement plates, and even an OEM
First Aid kit!
Exterior
A multi-colored woodland type camouflage drapes both the rig and
the trailer and includes the canvas canopies at both ends. On the
side, a high tailpipe to match the high fording snorkel in front
and accenting both vehicles is authentic type stenciling. Of
course, it wouldn't be a Humvee without its enormous proportions,
all riding on 16.5-inch double beadlock wheels wrapped in American
made 37x12.50R16LT BF Goodrich tires. Up front, is an aluminum
military brush guard and 10k MileMarker hydraulic military winch.
LED lights are all around as well as reflectors on every corner. A
four slot Nato can holder is on the tailgate and one more in the
truck bed along with two high powered flood lights. As the
preferred rough and ready bug out ride, imperfections such as
peeling paint, chips, and scratches don't bother us and add to the
character of this American hero.
Interior
The well appointed truck bed contains things like waterproof
cushions on the floor, carpeted cots, a spare wheel, survival pack,
cold and foul weather gear, officers chair and boarding ladder. In
the cockpit, commander and driver get high back seats and up front,
a standard issue 3 spoke steering wheel ahead of the olive green
dashboard laden with warning notes and a simple instrument cluster
to the right of the column. The passenger who sits in a different
time zone, also gets a variety of instructional plaques, warning
notes, and one particularly humorous addition reminding them not to
touch anything. Of note is a Xantrex 24v inverter between the
seats.
Drivetrain
Receiving a Marine Armor Kit overhaul is the 6.5 liter diesel eight
cylinder under the hood, fuel injected and rated at 170 horsepower.
It has a new 200 amp Niehoff alternator/generator and is backed by
a 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission passing through 2.73 gears
at both axles. Our consignor states a new heater core, steering
box, water pump, hydraulic pump, brake pads, and glow plugs have
been installed.
Undercarriage
Rhino coating has been applied to the underside which presents
almost entirely in olive green. Heavy variant 12k coil springs are
on all four corners and power disc brakes are also all around. The
single exhaust carries a stock style muffler and exits through a
side ascending tail pipe.
Drive-Ability
It's big. It's heavy. It can go anywhere and do anything and take
supplies with it. The Humvee runs well, tracks straight, and
handles our flat tarmac with ease. We're guessing rough terrain is
not a problem. This well sorted veteran operates at full bore; all
functions work as they should, and we deem this ready for civilian
enlistment! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you have to get out of dodge, don't rely on your Challenger.
This stacked military set up not only makes a fantastic show piece,
but in extreme weather or agitator clogged roadways, is a useful
piece of American rolling art. We've seen our share of High
Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled vehicles, but never one decked out
like this!
