This 1970 Chevrolet Impala Convertible is a distinctive, SEMA-built
restomod that combines classic American styling with extensive
modern customization. Built by Jimenez Bros Customs for the
prestigious SEMA Show, this Impala showcases an impressive level of
detail throughout its interior, exterior, engine compartment, and
trunk. From its custom two-tone Cadillac green paint and specially
commissioned three-piece wheels to its extensively modified
LS-based V8 and bespoke interior by renowned Southern California
upholsterer Ron Mangus, this Impala represents a substantial
investment in craftsmanship, performance, and individuality.
The exterior makes an immediate impression with its custom green
paint inspired by an early-2000s Cadillac CTS color. The two-tone
finish features a matte upper section contrasted against a
high-gloss lower body, separated by hand-applied pinstriping with
subtle copper detailing. The bumpers have been modified and
color-matched for a more contemporary appearance, while extensive
chrome deletes and painted trim create a cohesive, streamlined
design. Oracle headlights and a custom front turn signal delete
further distinguish the front end. Completing the exterior are
custom 20-inch, three-piece AG Wheels, specifically manufactured
for this Impala and its SEMA Show appearance. Every element has
been carefully selected to complement the car's distinctive
styling, creating a custom convertible with an unmistakable
presence.
Inside, the craftsmanship continues with a fully customized
interior completed by Ron Mangus Upholstery in Southern California,
a respected name associated with numerous award-winning automotive
projects. The front and rear seating began as late-model Chevrolet
Camaro seats before being extensively reshaped, separated, and
upholstered to suit the Impala's custom cabin. Black leather with
copper-colored suede inserts complements the exterior's unique
color combination, while custom door panels and a bespoke center
console contribute to the refined appearance. A Dakota Digital
instrument cluster brings contemporary instrumentation to the
classic dashboard, accompanied by a Lokar floor shifter, tilt
steering column, and Restomod Air air conditioning system.
Entertainment comes courtesy of a custom Kicker Audio installation
featuring Bluetooth connectivity, amplifiers, and substantial
trunk-mounted subwoofers. Additional details, including integrated
phone charging connections, demonstrate the attention devoted to
making this one-off interior both visually impressive and
functional.
Under the hood sits an extensively modified GM LQ9 V8, originally
sourced from a Cadillac Escalade. Starting with the 6.0-liter
LS-series platform, the engine was reportedly completely rebuilt
with a .030-inch overbore, stroker rotating assembly, custom
aluminum cylinder heads, and an upgraded performance camshaft.
Additional performance equipment includes a FiTech electronic fuel
injection system, aftermarket intake, aluminum radiator, and
electric cooling fan. According to the consignor, previous
dynamometer testing suggested approximately 450 horsepower and 450
lb-ft of torque, although supporting dyno documentation has not yet
been located. Power is delivered through a 4L60E four-speed
automatic transmission, which the consignor reports was recently
rebuilt by Riverside Transmissions, a performance transmission
specialist in Southern California.
The custom engineering extends beneath the car with an adjustable
air ride suspension system incorporating AccuAir components and
VIAIR air compressors, both brands associated with the original
SEMA build. The air management system retains its AccuAir tank and
e-Level components, with an updated control interface installed
following changes in availability of the original equipment. The
VIAIR compressors are prominently displayed within the
custom-finished trunk, creating an installation that is as much a
visual feature as it is a functional component. Braking is handled
by four-wheel manual Baer disc brakes featuring drilled and slotted
rotors and custom-colored calipers coordinated with the vehicle's
overall design. Baer was also among the sponsors involved in this
Impala's SEMA project. Throughout the vehicle, numerous additional
custom details reflect the effort invested in creating a cohesive
show-oriented build.
