Few silhouettes capture the Fox Mustang's street-machine appeal
like a notchback. Factory 5.0 LX coupes earned their reputation as
understated performers, with relatively low production adding to
their appeal. This 1990 Ford Mustang takes that heritage into
modern hot-rodding territory with a Gen 1 5.0L Coyote V8, a
five-speed manual, and upgrades that reach well beyond the engine
compartment. Repainted in its original Wild Strawberry paint code,
it pairs classic Fox proportions with a serious hardware list.
Pop the Cervini Cobra R cowl hood, supported by MRT hood struts,
and the shaved and painted engine bay puts the Coyote front and
center. Smoothed shock towers clean up the presentation, while an
upgraded fuel system and an aluminum radiator with dual electric
fans support the conversion. Ceramic-coated long-tube headers and
electronic exhaust cutouts give the powerplant an appropriately
aggressive outlet. The Power by the Hour TKO five-speed and Hurst
shifter put gear selection in your hands, with an aluminum
driveshaft, 3.73 gears, and 31-spline Moser axles rounding out the
driveline.
The chassis received just as much attention. A BMR tubular K-member
works alongside RideTech adjustable coilovers and tubular control
arms, while a custom 48-spline front sway bar, bumpsteer kit, and
power rack-and-pinion steering add to the handling package.
Subframe connectors and reinforced torque boxes address key areas
of the Fox platform's structure. Hydroboost-assisted brakes, SN95
calipers, and StopTech drilled and slotted rotors complete a build
that gives braking and chassis control their share of the
spotlight.
Outside, BC Forged wheels, a carbon fiber front spoiler, and carbon
fiber side mirrors sharpen the notchback's clean profile. Smoked
headlight styling and LED headlights add a contemporary touch,
while full paint protection accompanies the driver-quality finish.
Inside, the black cabin features Corbeau GTS II bucket seats, a
removable Sparco steering wheel, Dakota Digital VHX gauges, and a
center console with cupholders. Power windows and locks retain
everyday convenience.
A new Fathead Garage hidden air-conditioning system brings comfort
into the mix, while a Sony double-DIN radio with wireless CarPlay,
an aftermarket backup camera, and a custom JL Audio system with
10-inch subs and an amplifier update the cabin's technology. From
the Coyote swap to the chassis reinforcement, this Mustang brings
together the ingredients enthusiasts want in a thoughtfully
equipped Fox build: manual-transmission involvement, distinctive
notchback styling, and an extensive collection of performance
hardware.
