Remember when a pickup truck was actually a pickup truck? No 14
inch touchscreen, no subscription heated seats, no computer asking
if you'd like to take a coffee break. Just a key, a V6, four wheel
drive and a bed ready to haul something.
This 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 Off Road has traveled an almost
ridiculous 47,000 miles in 25 years. That works out to less than
2,000 miles a year. More importantly, this one hasn't been lifted,
chopped, slammed, LS swapped, turned into a mud truck or
accessorized by a teenager with an AutoZone gift card. It remains
remarkably original, and that is getting very hard to find.
Under the hood is Ford's stout 4.0L V6, paired with an automatic
transmission and four wheel drive. The factory Off Road Package
gives this Ranger some additional credibility when the pavement
ends, while the 16 inch alloy wheels, fog lights and Westin step
bars give it exactly the right early 2000s truck look.
It's also the desirable extended cab configuration with four doors.
Open up the rear doors and you'll find a pair of those legendary
folding jump seats, perfect for kids, buddies you don't
particularly like, or reminding everyone just how compact trucks
used to be.
Inside you'll find comfortable cloth seating, air conditioning,
cruise control, tilt steering wheel and the technological crown
jewel of 2001: an AM/FM stereo with an in dash 6 disc CD changer.
Load it with six albums and you've basically got Spotify without
the monthly payment.
Other equipment includes privacy glass, a sliding rear window, fog
lights and Westin step bars.
But the equipment isn't really the story here.
The story is 47,000 miles and originality.
Most Rangers from this era were bought to work. They hauled
landscaping equipment, pulled trailers, survived Michigan winters,
got handed down to someone's kid and eventually disappeared after
200,000 plus miles of faithful service. Finding a clean, original
XLT 4x4 Off Road with mileage like this is becoming genuinely
difficult.
This isn't a restored old Ranger trying to look young again. It
simply never got old in the first place.
A wonderfully preserved example from an era when Ford built small
trucks that were simple, useful and seemingly impossible to
kill.
47K miles. 4.0 V6. 4x4. Off Road Package. Four doors. And
refreshingly original.
They don't make Rangers like this anymore, and the ones they did
make usually don't look like this one.
