Produced for just two years in 1997 and 1998, the 993-generation
911 Carrera S model is among the most obscure air-cooled 911s
Porsche has ever produced-but given what it offers, it shouldn't
be. As the rear-wheel-drive-only counterpart to the more well-known
Carrera 4S, the Carrera S features a lowered suspension with wider
wheels and the front end styling, flared sills, and rear fender
flares from the 911 Turbo. Special interior treatments included
Carrera S badging, door panels and sunvisors in Black leather, and
a Steel Grey-painted hand brake, door sills, instrument trim, and
shift knob. In total, less than 1,000 of the Carrera S model were
produced for the U.S. market in the year, making this non-metallic
Black example a particularly compelling find for collectors who
know what the Carrera S represents.
Completed in Stuttgart in September 1997 as a 1998 model, both the
original service book and its Porsche build sheet reveal that this
911 Carrera S was equipped from new with several desirable
options-most importantly the engaging six-speed manual transmission
and Aerokit front and rear spoilers (XD1 and XD2) which together
form the "Aero II" aerodynamics package. Additional highlights
include an interior upholstered in optional supple Cashmere Beige
leather, leather covered CD storage, oval stainless steel
tailpipes, Motor Sound Package, and Litronic headlights. Following
production, the Carrera S has been fitted with a pair of highly
coveted hardback sport seats in Cashmere Beige and Rest-of-World
bumpers for an exceptionally clean look.
Originally delivered through Jim Ellis Porsche (now Porsche Atlanta
Perimeter), this Carrera S features a clean CARFAX Vehicle History
Report that records only three owners from new. Acquired by its
second owner in November 2005 with approximately 50,000 miles
traveled, it has seen just 9,000 additional miles in the subsequent
two decades, a period punctuated with a dry ice detail and
servicing at Tucker Motorsports and The Shop 21 in Ocala, Florida.
Most recently, in 2024, new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires were
fitted at 58,382 miles and a comprehensive $18,000 service
conducted in May 2025 that included new engine seals, fresh oil and
filters, new spark plugs, new rear axles, and fresh power steering
fluid.
Offered today with only 59,222 miles at cataloging, with recent
servicing, a bevy of desirable options, and in a fantastic color
scheme, this example represents a rare opportunity to acquire a
well-documented example of Porsche's final air-cooled generation
911 Carrera S. Its six-speed manual transmission, Aerokit
aerodynamics packages, hardback sport seats, and Rest-of-World
bumpers make for an exceptionally well-sorted and visually striking
example. With its clean CARFAX Report, original books, toolkit, and
service invoices chronicling the car's history from Stuttgart to
today, this is the Carrera S that discerning collectors and
enthusiasts have been waiting for.
