"The 1968 Porsche 911 is highly celebrated as the final and most
refined year of the original short-wheelbase (SWB) chassis
configuration. This transitional model year introduced crucial
safety and emissions updates for the American market while
preserving the lightweight agility that defined early air-cooled
Porsches."
This 1968 Porsche 911 under the same ownership since 1981 is
finished in Polo Red (6802) with black leather and red pepita cloth
inserts and is powered by a 2.0-liter flat 6-cylinder motor factory
rated at 130 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft of torque and is paired with
a 5-speed manual transmission.
This Porsche 911 received a multi-year comprehensive mechanical and
cosmetic restoration completed to Porsche Concurs standards. Its
2.0-liter engine (3280308) was rebuilt to exacting specifications,
including race-balanced pistons and sleeves, an original Porsche
turbo oil pump, and restored original Weber carburetors. The
5-speed transmission (220068) was also serviced with new synchro
rings, bearings, clutch and pressure plate, and throw-out
bearing.
The 911's interior restoration included new front bucket seats in
black leather with Pepita cloth inserts, Dynamat soundproofing
throughout the cabin, original Porsche three-point inertia-reel
seat belts, headrests, and a cabin air blower.
The restoration effort included replacement of major body panels
with new galvanized steel parts with many original Porsche parts.
The floor pan, both rear quarter panels and front suspension pan
were replaced using the Porsche factory Celette fixture ensuring
accurate alignment. Porsche front and rear suspension stabilizer
bars were also installed at this time Although the restoration
started with a solid example, many of the body panels that were
replaced were done so the inner panels could be examined for any
corrosion and mitigated if needed.
The Polo Red paint shows extremely well and according to the
restorer was applied in accordance with Porsche factory technique
and process for the undercoating, primer, and top coat.
Originally equipped with ventilated chrome wheels, which are
included in the sale, this Porsche now rides on 15" Fuchs wheels
with 195/65R15 tires. Please note that the tires should be replaced
due to age.
Porsche Classic Technical Review: This 1968 Porsche 911 has
completed the exclusive Porsche Classic Technical Review.
Certificate No. 11830191, documents are included with the sale.
