Some custom builds are defined by the finished product, while
others are just as much about the journey it took to get there.
"Scrap Iron" belongs to the latter. Beginning with little more than
an original 1940 Ford truck cab and a vision, this pickup was
transformed from the ground up into a beautifully refined,
multiple-award-winning custom. Previously represented as a Ridler
Award finalist, its show history reflects the level of thought and
craftsmanship found throughout the build.
Finished in vibrant orange, the original Ford cab retains the
unmistakable character of a 1940 pickup while incorporating
extensive custom metalwork. A 3.5-inch chopped roof, one-piece
windshield, frenched headlights, shaved door handles with
electronic poppers, custom running boards, and a 1940 Ford
Deluxe-style grille give the truck a distinctive personality
without losing its prewar Ford heritage.
Beneath the hood is a tuned-port-injected 350ci small-block V8
backed by a 700R4 four-speed automatic overdrive. Underneath, a
custom chassis utilizing Fatman frame rails features independent
front suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, coilovers,
tubular control arms, disc brakes, and a shortened C3 Corvette
independent rear suspension-giving "Scrap Iron" the foundation to
be enjoyed beyond the show field.
The tan leather interior carries the craftsmanship inside with a
custom dash, Classic Instruments gauges, wood-inlaid console,
custom wood steering wheel, and African Satinwood accents. Vintage
Air, power windows, power locks, and tilt steering provide the
comfort expected from a high-end custom.
Out back, the handcrafted 20-gauge steel bed is a work of art in
its own right, finished with an African Satinwood floor and
intricate walnut inlays. Lazear billet wheels complete the stance
and complement the truck's refined appearance.
From its beginnings as an original Ford cab to its award-winning
show history, "Scrap Iron" is a build with both craftsmanship and a
story to tell. Look beyond the striking orange finish and you'll
find the details that make it special-the hand-fabricated
metalwork, exotic woods, custom chassis, and carefully finished V8
drivetrain. It's a 1940 Ford that rewards a closer look and makes
an even stronger impression from behind the wheel.
