"Putting you first keeps us first. Say you set out to build the
perfect mid size car. You'd probably come to the same decisions we
did for the 1969 Chevelle. In a sense, you did build this car. The
features you'll read about in this brochure exist only because
someone like you asked for them." From the 1969 Chevelle sales
brochure.
For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle hardtop with a
title verified 159,187 actual miles. Owned by our consignor for 37
years, this one's been restored and garage kept with a list of
upgrades and replacement parts dating back to 1989.
Exterior
Born in Frost Green, the car now wears another option in '69, the
brighter Rally Green, here in two stage goodness and molding free
sides to shine in all its glory, accented by wheel opening trim in
profile. Chrome bumpers also set forth some classic contrast and
the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels glow like diamonds under emerald
wrapped in 255/60R15's with an early 2025 date code. Distinctive
tail lights bookend one of the best A-body rears, here with dual
exhaust pipes, while the dual headlights in their individual black
bezels provide a lesson in period design and trends. Imperfections
are few and include some chips on a rear apron with some light edge
surface rust, some rock chips up front, a dab or two of paint runs,
and scratches in the left quarter window. At distance, the paint and
metal look fantastic. Our intrepid photographer picks up a few
flaws; chips throughout, some rust where the dash meet the bottom
edge of windshield, light scratches, inclusions that appear as
linear wrinkles in the paint, surface rust and bubbling on the
filler panel where it meets back window reveal, and cracking filler
on door.
Interior
Clean black vinyl door panels have visual interest with horizontal
stitched lines and polished trim, and the tall bucket seats include
bands of weave patterned vinyl and along with the rear bench, are
in fantastic condition. Up front, the standard steering wheel has
vinyl grip wrap and shares the column with a tachometer that fronts
a clean dash with two main circular gauges including the 120 mph
speedometer, various switches, and towards the middle, vent panel
and AM/FM/CD radio over an added triple gauge pod. We note some
cracking in the soft topped dash pad. A Hurst shifter lives on the
center console over black carpet and bowtie branded carpet mats.
Our black headliner is in decent shape and the trunk is clean,
showing some light surface rust on the floor and some invasive
corrosion on the inside of the decklid itself.
Drivetrain
Built for go rather than show, the bay holds a date correct 350ci
V8 with a .490 lift cam, World Products Sportsman II heads, a
Weiand intake and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a
later Muncie M20 4-speed manual and power is routed to the 12 bolt
rear with a consignor stated 4.11 gear ratio. Headers, power brakes
and power steering are on board.
Undercarriage
Generally clean with some oil drift on the dual exhaust and
FlowMaster mufflers, some residual oil on the rear differential,
and a spot of rust on a floorboard seam. Power brakes are on board
as front disc and rear drum and suspension is comprised of coil
springs at both ends with the addition of four link in back.
Drive-Ability
As we enter the car, we note a loose door handle on the driver
door, but once in, the 350 comes to life with a tasty exhaust note
and the car pulls well out to the test loop with plenty of power
underfoot. Of note are the heater blower, horn and reverse lights
not working, but all other functions available to the driver and
guests work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that
these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
Classic lines and a great color, not to mention a naturally
aggressive look, here with a powerful engine and fresh tires. This
Chevelle definitely checks some boxes and is going to be a great
acquisition for someone looking to get more greens in their
diet!
