INTRODUCTION: Not only is this Chevelle nut and bolt restored and
highly detailed, but it's the real deal! We have two build sheets
documenting that it was born a genuine SS, and it was also born in
these highly desirable colors.
EXTERIOR: It didn't look this good when it rolled off the assembly
line! The factory Code 75 Cranberry Red paint is literally polished
smooth like glass, and the correctly applied stripes are smooth to
the touch. The body is absolutely straight- every square inch of
it. The gaps are square and flush, especially where the hood meets
the headlight bezels. Honestly, it's some of the best fit I've ever
seen on a '70 Chevelle. You can even touch underneath the rockers
and feel how smooth and clean they are. It appears all of the
chrome and trim has been replaced with the exception of the door
handles. The front and rear glass have been replaced, while the
side glass appears to be original. The stainless moldings
surrounding the windows are polished. It was born with a white
vinyl top, and that has been replaced as well. The jambs are
painted slick, and all of the weatherstrips and seals were
replaced. The SS wheels are either new or beautifully restored and
are wrapped in reproduction Firestone Wide Oval tires.
INTERIOR: The factory born white interior is absolutely crisp. Down
on the floor is fresh, nicely fitted carpet with aftermarket SS
mats. The bucket seats were completely rebuilt with nice, firm
cushions and fresh upholstery that fits beautifully without a
wrinkle. The headrests and chrome seat trim have been replaced as
well. The rear seat is reupholstered, and all of the side panels
are new. Overhead is a new, wrinkle free headliner with matching
visors. The mirror looks new, and the dome light works. The dash
pad has been replaced, and the instrument panel is clean. It was
born with an AM/FM radio, and that's what it still has today. The
center console is in very nice shape and features the iconic staple
shifter. It even has reproduction seat belts, and the courtesy
light at the back of the console works.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It is highly detailed and looks factory
correct, but I'll let you in on a little secret. This is a genuine
SS 396 car and that's how it's badged, but under the hood it has
been upgraded with a 454. You'd have a hard time knowing it by
looking- the engine retains the stock appearance with factory style
manifolds, valve covers and air cleaner. It even has reproduction
dated spark plug wires. The pulleys, brackets and components all
look clean and proper. It features power steering and power brakes
with a cadmium plated booster. The wiper motor has been replaced,
the horns are hooked up, and even the windshield squirters are
functional. The cooling system has been restored including correct
reproduction hoses and clamps. It also has spring clamp battery
cables and a Delco battery topper. All of the metal surfaces are
neatly finished and smooth, and the hood insulation is in place.
Yes, this is one highly detailed engine compartment.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and throughout the jamb, the
paint is slick and glossy, while the original factory seams and
spot welds are still visible. Inside, the spatter finish was
professionally applied with a spray gun to duplicate the factory
appearance rather than simply using an aerosol can. The
weatherstrip, decals and trunk mat have all been replaced. It's
complete with a restored SS wheel wearing a reproduction tire,
along with a new reproduction jack assembly. Clean, complete and
detailed the way it should be.
UNDERSIDE: The body was off the frame, and the entire undercarriage
is incredibly detailed and very fresh. The floors are pristine
metal finished in semi-gloss black, and the entire chassis was
thoroughly prepped and painted to match. You won't even find
pitting showing anywhere. It has the desirable F41 suspension
package, including front and rear sway bars and boxed rear control
arms, along with correct-style spiral shocks. All of the suspension
and steering components were completely rebuilt. The brake system
was completely redone as well, with front disc brakes, replaced
lines and a new e-brake assembly. It has a factory-correct exhaust
system complete with mufflers, resonators, tailpipes and the
signature cowbell SS tips. Looking up at the engine, it's pristine
Chevy Orange and appears to have been professionally sprayed; even
the components such as the fuel pump and starter look fresh. The
numbers-matching Turbo 400 has its original-style tag riveted to
the side, correctly dated 1970. A rebuilt driveshaft connects to
the original 3.31-geared 12-bolt rear end with the correct dates
and codes. The fuel system was also replaced, including the tank
and lines. This is an exceptionally clean, highly detailed
undercarriage.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: Clear a spot in your living room for this one- it's
that nice! To duplicate a restoration of this caliber, first you'd
have to find the right shop capable of doing it, and then you'd
spend considerably more than what we're asking. And don't forget
it's documented, not a clone. This Chevelle is already done, highly
detailed and ready for someone to be proud of.
