The 1982 Corvette Collector's Edition closed out the C3 generation
in style, and it did so with a genuine first for the model, a
functional opening rear glass hatch in place of the standard fixed
rear window, a change that finally gave Corvette owners real
everyday practicality to go along with the performance. Only 6,759
examples of this Collector's Edition were built out of 25,407 total
1982 Corvettes, making this one of the rarer and more significant
variants of the C3's final year.
Finished in a striking Silver Beige Metallic with a fade away
silver beige gradient paint scheme, pinstripes, and exclusive
cloisonne emblems, this Corvette has an exterior presentation
unlike any other C3 Stingray. It rides on special aluminum wheels
styled after the original 1967 bolt on design, tying this final
year Corvette back to one of the model's most celebrated early
looks. Bronze tinted glass T-top roof panels are removable for open
air driving, and that frameless opening rear hatch, complete with a
cargo shade to hide contents from view, rounds out an exterior
package built with both style and function in mind.
Power comes from the 350ci V8 equipped with Cross Fire twin
throttle body fuel injection, a technology that was new to Corvette
this year and represented a step forward from the carbureted setups
of years past. It's paired with a 4 speed automatic transmission
featuring overdrive, the 700R4, giving this Corvette smooth,
confident power delivery along with genuine highway cruising
comfort.
Inside, this Collector's Edition came fully loaded with a two tone
silver beige leather interior, Code 592, featuring multi-tone
bucket seats embroidered with Collector Edition logos and matching
multi-tone door panels. Dark bronze trim replaces the standard
black on the console, speedometer, tachometer, and gauge cluster
bezels, while a leather wrapped steering wheel with a unique
Collector Edition horn cap emblem adds another exclusive touch.
Luxury grade cut pile carpeting with color matched floor mats
completes the cabin. The Convenience and Power Group came standard
on every Collector's Edition, including a six way power driver's
seat, power windows and door locks, a tilt and telescopic steering
column, air conditioning, a rear window defogger, and a power
antenna, making this one of the most well equipped Corvettes
Chevrolet offered that year.
This 1982 Collector's Edition represents the final and most
exclusive expression of the C3 Corvette, combining a genuine
automotive first, rare production numbers, and a fully loaded
luxury package that made it the most desirable Corvette of its
model year.
