"The classic premium Buick is a full frame rear wheel drive sedan
with power to spare. It's 260 horsepower is one of the most
powerful American automobiles of its kind. Roadmaster is a
beautiful dimension of prestigious luxury with large scale power,
safety and comfort." From the 1995 brochure
For consignment, a 1995 Buick Roadmaster 4 door sedan with a title
verified 106,224 actual miles. Here's a one owner version of a car
that has a following far beyond cult status, and a 5.7 liter
detuned Corvette engine from the factory!
Exterior
No matter the color, the sheer size of the aptly named Roadmaster
is impressive; wide, long, and from the C-pillar back, a clinic in
extended overhangs and big trunks. The Light Adriatic Blue Metallic
paint is appropriately luxurious and is bisected above the rocker
panels with an elegant and bolt stainless detail trim that fully
encircles the car like a birthday present ribbon. A movie screen
sized raked windshield comes at the end of an even longer hood
while composite tail lights conform to the grille and flush marker
lights. In profile, you'll note the horizontal coach lamp on the
wide C-pillar to let fellow road goers know that you're not quite
through the intersection at night. It's a graceful touch behind
enormous doors and 15-inch wheels with white wall tires.
Imperfections include deplating on plastic chrome grille, rock
chips and scuffs up front, various chips and inclusions, scuffs on
side mirror and rear bumper, touched up chips, clear coat blemishes
on the wheels, edgewear, rust on the rear quarter panel, flex
cracks, scratches throughout, and missing trim molding.
Interior
It's blue on blue for this behemoth and it starts with smooth vinyl
and simulated burlwood on the door panels with black plated switch
inserts and ashtrays for everyone! There's a cavernous storage bin
on each and all four doors present nicely. Inside, a pillowy 70/30
split bench seat in blue velour occupies the front and a welcoming
rear bench, equally soft and cushioned, all look to be in fantastic
shape. Finger grooves and leather grips dress a comfortable
steering wheel that fronts a basic instrument cluster where the
speedometer is the prominent feature and is flanked by boxed
readouts. Two burlwood accents run parallel across the dash,
sandwiching the A/C panel and AM/FM/Cassette radio. A column
shifter means the floor is open and blue carpet makes its way over
the transmission hump and all the way to the back. A fleece-like
headliner in blue is clean and intact and the bit trunk is fully
finished with gray cloth panels.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the 5.7 liter LT1 V8, fuel injected and cranking
out 260 horsepower. It's mated to GM ubiquitous 4L60E 4-speed
automatic transmission that routes power to the 10 bolt rear axle
with 2.56 gears and Positraction. The bay, like the exterior, is
what we'd call driver quality, speaking esthetically.
Undercarriage
Surface rust and corrosion and hints of residual oil are found on
the otherwise clean underside where dual exhaust runs through stock
style mufflers and power brakes are divided as front disc and rear
drum. Suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with
trailing arms in back.
Drive-Ability
Known for their soft and floaty ride, this Roadmaster does not
disappoint and since we're on old tires, we'll keep it at
manageable speeds, but there's plenty of power underfoot and
endless cubic feet of space in the cabin. We note the rear power
window and driver's power seat are not working but all other
functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
The brand is well known, the engine is nearly legendary, and the
profile is unmistakable. Call it a dinosaur if you want, but this
is one of the more desired luxury cars from the mid-90's. Who needs
an SUV when you have this much space and storage? This one has many
long, cushy rides ahead!
