For Sale: 1974 Dodge Charger in Beverly Hills, California

Vehicle Description

1974 Dodge Charger SE - 440 Big Block - Approximately 515 HP - Rebuilt & Upgraded

Selling my 1974 Dodge Charger SE. This is a loud, aggressive, very fun classic Charger powered by a built 440 big-block producing approximately 515 HP at the wheels / 550 HP at the crank.

A substantial amount of money has already been invested into this car. The previous owner told me he spent approximately $27,000 on the engine, transmission, rear end and related mechanical work. I then invested approximately another $18,000 improving the interior, electrical system, braking, fuel system and overall drivability.

MECHANICAL / PERFORMANCE

  • Originally a 318 small-block car, now converted to a built 440 big-block

  • Rebuilt 440 big-block with less than approximately 800 miles on the rebuild when purchased

  • Approximately 515 HP at the wheels / 550 HP at the crank

  • 10:1 compression

  • Purple cam

  • Hydraulic lifters

  • 727 StreetFighter transmission

  • Transmission had approximately 25 miles on it when the previous owner listed the car

  • 8 3/4 rear end built by Sparker Racing in North Carolina

  • Big-block torsion bars

  • Polyurethane bushings

  • Mickey Thompson valve covers

  • New valley pans, oil pans and gaskets

  • Dual powder-coated Flowmaster exhaust

  • 3-inch exhaust with X-pipe

  • MSD ignition

  • Chrome alternator

  • Champion 3-row radiator

  • New KYB shocks front and rear

  • New gas tank

  • Disc brakes

  • Brake vacuum pump added for improved braking performance

The car has a very aggressive muscle-car exhaust note and racing-style sound.

FUEL SYSTEM / DRIVABILITY

The previous owner had a much larger carburetor installed, which was causing drivability and stalling issues.

I spent roughly $4,000 having the carburetor and fuel system professionally corrected and sorted out. It now has what I believe is a 650 Holley carburetor, and the car runs significantly better.

INTERIOR RESTORATION

When I purchased the Charger, we completely gutted the interior and went through it properly.

Work completed includes:

  • Interior removed and floor cleaned up

  • Surface rust addressed

  • High-end insulation installed throughout

  • New carpet

  • New dash

  • New rear/back light

  • Electrical system repaired and sorted out

  • Interior completely detailed

  • New front seats

The interior now presents extremely well and looks close to new.

CONDITION

The underside of the car also looks very good. The large 3-inch exhaust system gives the car an especially aggressive muscle-car appearance from underneath.

This is a driver, not a finished show car.

Mechanically, the car is a beast, and the interior has already been heavily restored. The primary remaining opportunity for the next owner is the exterior.

The car could use some remaining rust cleanup and eventually a paint job if the goal is to bring it closer to mint or show-car condition. The engine bay could also benefit from cosmetic detailing and cleanup.

SUMMARY

A huge amount of the expensive work has already been completed.

  • Real 1974 Dodge Charger SE
