This 1964 Morgan Plus Four 2+2 Roadster is an elegantly restored
vintage Morgan that exemplifies the sportiness of a true British
sports car. There are very few automobiles in history that can
claim an unbroken lineage stretching from the pre-war era to the
present day - cars so fundamentally right in their conception that
time itself has failed to improve upon them. The Morgan Plus Four
is one of those cars. And for collectors and enthusiasts in the
Upper Midwest seeking to explore the world of Morgan ownership,
there is no better starting point than Ellingson Motorcars - home
of Morgan Minnesota, the Upper Midwest's authorized Morgan Motor
Company dealer, and one of the few destinations in America where
the Morgan tradition is truly understood and celebrated. The Morgan
Motor Company story is one of the most remarkable in automotive
history. Founded in 1909 by Henry Frederick Stanley (H.F.S.) Morgan
in the village of Malvern Link, Worcestershire, England, the
company has occupied the same factory site for well over a century
- hand-building each car with a craftsmanship and attention to
detail that the modern automotive industry has largely abandoned.
Morgan introduced the Plus Four in 1950 as a step up from the
original 4/4, fitting the larger, more powerful Standard Vanguard
engine into the traditional Morgan rolling chassis and giving
serious drivers a genuinely quick, genuinely engaging sports car
wrapped in bodywork that celebrated British coachbuilding tradition
at its most pure. By 1964, the Plus Four had matured into one of
the most respected sports cars in the world. Powered by the Triumph
TR4's 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine producing approximately 100
horsepower - a robust figure for the era given the Morgan's
featherweight construction - the Plus Four delivered a driving
experience of remarkable immediacy and involvement. With no driver
aids, and thus nothing between the driver and the road but a tautly
sprung chassis and a perfectly weighted steering rack, the 1964
Plus Four communicated everything. It was, and remains, one of the
most honest and rewarding driver's cars ever built. The traditional
Morgan construction method, unchanged in its essential principles
across decades, contributed directly to that experience. An ash
wood buck - hand-fitted by Morgan craftsmen in Malvern - formed the
skeletal framework core of the body, while sliding pillar front
suspension, Morgan's own patented design dating to the company's
earliest years, provided a handling character unlike anything
produced by Morgan's contemporaries. These were not anachronisms or
affectations. They were deliberate engineering choices made by a
company that understood exactly what its customers wanted and
refused to compromise that vision for the sake of modernity. A 1964
Morgan Plus Four represents a singular opportunity in today's
collector car market - a genuine piece of British automotive
heritage, hand-built by craftsmen who took extraordinary pride in
their work, at a moment when the Plus Four's development had
reached a confident, fully-resolved maturity. At Ellingson
Motorcars and Morgan Minnesota, we live and breathe the Morgan
tradition every day. We are proud to offer this exceptional example
to a collector who will appreciate not just what it is, but what it
represents - a direct, unbroken connection to one of the greatest
and most enduring stories in the history of the automobile. This
particular example was last cared for by a discerning enthusiast
who enjoyed the car while under their stewardship. Under the bonnet
of this Plus 4 is a Triumph-sourced 2,138cc Inline 4 cylinder
engine fed by a pair of SU carburetors that in combination were
said to have produced 105 horsepower when new. Additionally, this
Plus Four's toolkit is housed under the bonnet should you need it.
The TR4 inline 4 is mated to a 4 speed manual transmission that
makes this sporty little Morgan an absolute hoot to drive. A
charming rumble emanates from a single tailpipe while exhaust gases
leave this Plus 4's powerplant. This '64 Morgan Plus Four has
fantastic options around the exterior. The front chrome bumper is
accented with a pair of chrome bumper guards and it is topped with
a pair of driving lights that give both a nostalgic feel as well as
a bit more visibility in low light situations. Mounted atop both
the port and starboard fenders are chrome-trimmed parking lights
along with chrome outside mirrors that greatly improved visibility
while squeezing into that tight parking spot or while making the
occasional lane change. Further, the louvered bonnet is secured
with a Morgan-embroidered leather bonnet strap that provides
additional security while driving as well as a charming British
accent of an older time. Bringing this classic British sports car
to a complete stop is much easier thanks to the front disc brakes.
Riding on a set of 15 inch chrome wire knock-off wheels, each
mounted with a Michelin retro-style radial tires, this 1964 Morgan
+Four has an outstanding look and even better ride. Additionally a
rear-mounted matching spare tire further elevates the look of this
vintage Morgan while also proving to be quite useful should you
ever need it. Mounted below the rear-mounted spare is the chrome
rear bumper and chrome bumper guards that match the front end look
of this car. This vintage Morgan also comes with a black vinyl
convertible top, matching tonneau cover and removable windows
should you need a bit more protection from the elements. The
handcrafted body of this 1964 Morgan has been refinished in Regency
Red paint that completes the exterior look of this sporty little
import. The interior of this 1964 Morgan Plus Four is absolutely
exquisite! The front bucket seats along with the rear bench seat
are upholstered in Cinnamon leather, making for an upscale look and
feel. The matching carpeting, door panels, wood-trimmed dash and
shifter, and 4-spoke Ivory-painted steering wheel all appear to be
in great shape as well while retaining a wonderful stock
appearance. Taking its cues from British race cars of the era, this
1964 Morgan Plus Four comes equipped with a vast array of
instrumentation by Smiths, including a 140 MPH speedometer, 6,000
RPM tachometer, amp gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge
and fuel gauge. Mounted atop the wood-trimmed dash are a
center-mounted chrome rearview mirror straddled by a pair of
adjustable wind deflectors that further add to charming appeal of
this wonderful classic Morgan. Whether you're buying your very
first classic car or you're a seasoned British sports car
enthusiast, this 1964 Morgan Plus Four would make an excellent
choice. Give Morgan Minnesota/Ellingson's a call today at
