This 1966 Ford Mustang GT Coupe is an exceptionally clean, beautifully presented example finished in its factory-correct Springtime Yellow over a Parchment interior. Freshly repainted and recently refreshed throughout, this Mustang combines the unmistakable look of a first-generation GT with a well-sorted drivetrain that makes it just as enjoyable to drive as it is to look at.
Under the hood is a 289ci V8 paired with a three-speed C4 automatic transmission. The car fires right up, settles into a great idle, and drives wonderfully. Power steering and front disc brakes make it an easy and comfortable classic to enjoy around town or out on a longer drive.
Prior to its current ownership, the Mustang received an extensive mechanical refurbishment. The 289 was disassembled, the cylinder walls honed, and the engine reassembled with replacement piston rings and gaskets. Additional work included replacement of the water pump, power steering pump, belts, ignition components, radiator and vacuum hoses. The suspension was also overhauled with replacement front and rear springs, control arms and KYB shocks, while the front disc and rear drum brakes were rebuilt. A replacement dual exhaust system completes the package.
More recently, considerable attention was given to the exterior. The Springtime Yellow paint was completely redone, including the door jambs, trunk and underside of the hood, and the GT lower-body stripes were reapplied. New weatherstripping and seals were installed throughout. The result is a remarkably crisp, clean Mustang with beautiful paint and excellent overall presentation.
GT details include grille-mounted fog lights, lower-body stripes, GT-branded fuel cap and dual exhaust outlets exiting through the rear valance. The car rides on 14-inch styled-steel wheels wrapped in 205/70 Toyo Spectrum tires, while a black vinyl roof provides a sharp contrast against the Springtime Yellow finish.
Inside, Parchment vinyl bucket seats and a matching rear bench are complemented by woodgrain dashboard trim and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. The cabin retains its classic Mustang character while remaining comfortable and inviting, with a floor-mounted automatic shifter and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo.
The data plate identifies this Mustang as a San Jose-built car completed April 19, 1966, and originally equipped with an A-code 289ci V8, Springtime Yellow paint, Parchment Luxury upholstery with black trim, C4 automatic transmission and a 3.00:1 rear axle.
Adding to its history, this Mustang was reportedly purchased from its original owner in 1970 by the previous owner's aunt and remained within that family for more than five decades.
Clean, beautifully painted and mechanically sorted, this is the kind of classic Mustang you can actually get in and enjoy. It starts easily, drives wonderfully, and presents exceptionally well inside and out—a very sharp example of one of the most recognizable American classics ever built.
