For consignment, a 1989 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas 4 door saloon with a title verified 98,355 actual miles. Car and Driver wrote, "Jaguar's big news for 1989 can be summed up in two words: better performance. The inline six cylinder engine has been spiffed up by an increase in the compression ratio from 8.2 to 9.6:1. This move raises the horsepower of the fine twin cam, 24 valve engine from 181 to 195."

Exterior
Long, lean and low, this cat is adorned with two stage Alpine Green Metallic paint that's included on the window pillars and over the sliding sunroof. Jaguar took a modern and daring twist by applying smoke tint to the tail lights, giving the car some aggression and sport that complements the two exhaust tips exiting straight back. In front, its unmistakably Jaguar with dual headlights flanking a stately grille and of course, the leaping cat hood ornament. Narrow height fenders lead to long doors as this luxury car sticks to its roots of being people focused. Side window reveals are polished and a nice style design that links visually with the side molding, polished door handles and chrome bumper tops. 15-inch Jaguar wheels wear 70 series tires and in profile, or from any angle, you're witnessing a well balanced and artful automotive design. Imperfections include chips, surface scratches, some blistering throughout, deeper scratches, edgewear, rock spray, chin scrapes, some rust on panel undersides, and front apron separation.

Interior
Known for their attention to interior details, this example does not disappoint with some of the most handsome door panels you'll find; a combination of accented burlwood, black leather, doeskin leather, black switchgear, storage, polished hardware and a lighted armrest and all four present nicely. The doeskin bucket seat for the driver shows age with some discoloration and wear through and the shotgun seat shows a lighter degree of use. In back, it's bucket seat configuration with a center armrest and burlwood trays ahead of each seat. A leather wrapped steering wheel fronts a vertical panel of switchgear and a wood framed gauge cluster and a radar detector. High lacquered burlwood covers much of the dash to the right and including the center stack that is home to the A/C panel and AM/FM/Cassette radio. It flows seamlessly to the center console where the wood curves to surround the J-shifter. Taupe carpet covers the floor and tan cloth provides the headliner that surrounds the sunroof and overhead console. That same taupe covering goes on to finish the trunk where even the spare tire is wrapped. Of note, the seatbelts are automatic and connect to the sliding latch in the channel of the window frame.

Drivetrain
Not as crowded as a V12 but almost as busy in the bay is the 3.6 liter inline DOHC six cylinder, fuel injected and producing 195 horsepower. It's mated to a ZF 4HP2 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 3.58 gears. The bay presents in clean driver quality condition.

Undercarriage
Clean, relatively dry and rust free underneath with just some residual oil on the pan and typical age related metal oxidation. Power disc brakes are found on all four wheels and a single exhaust splits after the catalytic converter and runs through stock style mufflers before finding a dressy exit out back. The fully independent suspension includes coil springs in front and Macpherson struts in back and our consignor informs us new strut bushings have been added.

Drive-Ability
One of the other things Jaguars are infamous for is their smooth and quiet ride and this one fulfills that expectation even with some miles under its belt. The riding position, comfortable interior, and surefooted stance make for a very nice driving experience with more than enough power for a brisk commute. The left rear power window is not working but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
