2007 AM General M1152A1 HMMWV Pickup

Desert Storm brought us into the battlefield with the nearly live action TV coverage that was available on cable news. During said coverage, the general public and in particular car aficionados took notice of these go everywhere vehicles our troops were using known as the Humvee. Their fascination led to a trend where AM General corporation which supplied the M998 Humvee to the military got the brainchild idea to make these trucks available to the public, and this became the Hummer line produced in their Mishawaka, Indiana facility.

For consignment, a 2007 AM General M1152A1 HMMWV pickup showing 6,554 miles, but the true miles are unknown. A five page build sheet from West Kentucky Surplus shows that a ton of work was done to turn this former military brat into a legitimate road going show truck that can still get the job done.

Exterior
You already know about the larger than life proportions of Humvees but very few have a two stage coat of Dark Gray, here with a heavy duty brush guard up front and black accents throughout, all maintaining that "can do" look. Accessories include a 52" lightbar, heavy duty rock sliders in black, a 13k wireless winch with custom mounting plate, fiberglass doors with complete new hardware, and a 2" drop hitch receiver. LED lights assure good night vision, or visibility, and the gun metal gray 17-inch Black Rhino wheels are fitted with 40x13.5R17LT tires with a late 2022 date code. The dark canvas top includes a rear window that looks out over the steel bed, painted to match of course! Like we said, this is a show quality truck and we could not find any glaring exterior flaws other than dents on the bed floor.

Interior
Steel frames line the inner doors where, as removable units, there exist no creature comforts, but all four are clean. Tall buckets for four are dressed in black vinyl and present in great shape. Up front, a Grant steering wheel fronts a combination of remnant military switchgear and an updated Speedhut gauge cluster with digital odometer while a Pioneer screen to your right manages the AM/FM/CD player. Grain vinyl covers the massive center console and shifters are at the ready just to the right. Cupholders, speakers, and a locking box bring this rig into the civilian realm. And rather than bare steel on the floor, you get a rubberized covering, and the entire interior is clean.

Drivetrain
Up front is the 6.5 liter GEP turbo diesel V8, rated at 190 horsepower and fuel injected. It's mated to a 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission and power is routed through both axles with 3.07 gears.

Undercarriage
Driven conditions underneath but overall clean and dry where the components are giant sized compared to your Camry. Inboard power disc brakes are supplied to all four wheels and the fully independent suspension includes coil springs at all four corners. A single exhaust travels through a stock style muffler. True to form, all mechanical components are tucked up high which not only improves clearance but accounts for the enormous center console that runs between the two rows of bucket seats.

Drive-Ability
It's not unlike driving a boat, with a ton of real estate around you and a regular sized control panel from which to control it. It hums along in fine fashion, producing adequate amounts of power, straight and wide tracking, and surefooted handling. It takes a minute or two to get used to the width, but once adjusted, it's a civilian's dream. All functions on board this battleship operate as intended and we head back to the base which we call the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

With 900 cars and trucks in the mall, there's no other vehicle we'd want in an sh*t hits the fan situation but this one is appealing for everyday use. They say "he who desires peace, prepares for war" and whether that's real engagement, fighting over a parking spot at Starbucks, or battling the harsh weather of winter, there's simply no substitute for a Humvee. This one has some creature comforts that will keep you cool and comfortable during the zombie apocalypse or black Friday sale at Raymour and Flanigan.
