For Sale: 2006 Ford Mustang in Sherman, Texas

Some Mustangs announce themselves with noise. This one starts with a bumper number: 06 276. Finished in Black over Charcoal, this S281SC pairs Saleen's supercharged 4.6 liter V8 with a vented aluminum hood, heavy duty cooling, a 3.55 Maxgrip differential and unmistakable 20 inch seven spoke Saleen wheels. It comes from a limited production chapter of Mustang history, when Saleen built just 786 supercharged S281 coupes and convertibles for 2006.

Its story gets more interesting under the hood. According to the owner, a preproduction Series VI.5 supercharger hat came directly from Saleen's Irvine engineering department and was paired with a Saleen SpeedLab pulley, larger injectors, a larger throttle body, a cold air intake and a Brenspeed calibration retained in the factory ECU. The owner reports an estimated 490 to 500 horsepower at the crank. The supercharger also received a preventative rebuild by 281 Motorsports in 2012.

Both owners have treated this car like something worth preserving. The current owner purchased it from his best friend, who bought it new, and reports that it has never been raced, driven in rain or left outside overnight. The Black paint has never been corrected, the rear seat has never been used, and the car still wears its original factory tires. Inside, the Charcoal cabin adds a Shaker 500 stereo and a power driver seat.

The paperwork is almost as compelling as the car. The original Ford and Saleen window stickers, Villa Ford dealer addendum, both owner's manuals, delivery tags, keys, California plates, registrations and smog records trace its history from new. Even the tire inflator remains sealed in the trunk. Saleen replaced the hood with a factory painted hood after a tennis ball dent in 2007, and the owner retained the replacement hood's 2007 emissions label as part of that history. For the collector who wants the car and the story that came with it, 06 276 brings both.
