Unveiled in 2020, the 765LT was McLaren's most extreme Longtail
model yet, and in keeping with McLaren's naming convention, its
name reflected its output in metric horsepower. As with the 600LT
and 675LT, the 765LT was offered in Coupe and, from 2021, Spider
form, with production limited to just 765 examples of each.
Ingeniously, the Spider featured an electrically operated,
retractable carbon fiber hard top which could be lowered or raised
in just 11 seconds and at speeds of up to 30 mph, if required.
Both 765LT variants employed a similar Monocage II carbon fiber
monocoque chassis to that of the 720S, with the Spider's structure
modified to accommodate bonded-in carbon fiber rollover supports.
The 765LT also retained the familiar twin-turbocharged M840T V8,
updated with redesigned forged pistons, a higher-capacity fuel
pump, and a new titanium exhaust system. As a result, output rose
by some 45 horsepower to a mammoth 755, while torque climbed to 590
lb-ft. Such potency was dealt with by McLaren's familiar
seven-speed, dual-clutch, seamless-shift transmission.
Significantly, a shorter set of gear ratios was fitted to the
765LT, with a corresponding 15-percent improvement in in-gear
acceleration relative to the 720S.
Elsewhere, McLaren's highly accomplished linked-hydraulic Proactive
Chassis Control II suspension system was utilized once again,
benefiting from revised software incorporating lessons learned from
McLaren's flagship Senna and Speedtail programs. Other suspension
improvements centered around revised damper valving, lightweight
coil springs, and revised track and ride height settings, while the
car also featured a quicker electro-hydraulically operated steering
rack. Meanwhile, the 765LT's considerable braking requirements were
taken care of by the use of six-piston Monobloc front calipers and
six-piston rear calipers of the type fitted to the Senna; each
operating on giant carbon-ceramic discs.
Aerodynamically, the 765LT offered a 25-percent increase in
downforce relative to the 720S; its active rear wing now
significantly larger and mounted more than two inches higher.
Additional incremental improvements were provided by the fitment of
a new, extended front splitter, a revised carbon fiber floor, and
an extended rear diffuser.
In addition to the weight saving of the revised monocoque chassis,
further significant reductions were made to the car's bodywork,
seats and wheels, while the quest for lightness even extended as
far as the fitment of thinner-gauge glass and the replacement of
door pockets with lightweight storage nets. With a dry weight of
just 3,060 pounds, the 765LT Spider was some 176 pounds lighter
than the 720S Spider, which helped it reach 60 mph in just 2.7
seconds and 124 mph in 7.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of
some 205 mph.
This 2022 McLaren 765LT Spider is finished in Vega Blue, a
special-order McLaren Elite finish that alone cost $5,430,
according to its accompanying digital McLaren window sticker. This
is complemented by a Black and Midnight Blue Alcantara interior,
which adds another $3,000 to its roster of options. The build sheet
displays a total optional equipment list in excess of $42,000,
which is highlighted by a number of desirable appointments. The
exterior is enhanced with the $18,000 Black Pack from McLaren
Special Operations, along with Extended Carbon Fiber upper trim,
Carbon Fiber Louvres on the front fender, and Diamond Cut
Laser-Etched wheels. The interior is specified with electric and
heated memory seats, covered door storage bins, center tunnel with
lockable bin, secondary interior components in Carbon Fiber, and
Carbon Black Leather steering wheel. It is further equipped with an
arsenal of creature comforts including a vehicle lift, parking
sensors, and a rear parking camera with 360 Park Assist. The car's
well-appointed cockpit is illuminated-or shielded-by the $9,090
electrochromic roof option, which can quickly adjust the tint of
the sunroof and allow the passengers to control the amount of
sunlight that enters the cabin without folding down the power
top.
According to its CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this example was
delivered new in December 2022 to McLaren Chicago, and was sold to
its only indicated private owner the following March. Based in
Milton, Wisconsin, its owner continued to maintain the 765LT
primarily at the dealership of origin, with its most recent service
reported in January 2025.
On 13 March 2025, this example was the unfortunate victim of an
elaborate theft operation called the "Central Dispatch scam," and
was briefly stolen while on a transport to Illinois. With the aid
of the authorities, the McLaren was recovered in short order by
Hagerty and is now owned by Essentia Insurance. Discovered with
only an exterior wrap applied, so insignificant was the "damage"
done during its theft that the car's most recent CARFAX Report
remains clean. The wrap was fully removed during a service
conducted in September 2026, which also consisted of an oil change,
air conditioning system service, and fitment of four brand new
Pirello P Zero PZ4 tires. After an extended period of time with the
McLaren, the consigning specialist notes that it drives
beautifully, with everything working as it should.
Today, this 2022 McLaren 765LT is offered from single private
ownership until its acquisition by Hagerty and with just over 3,350
miles at cataloging. Rare and brilliantly specified, this example
offers the best of all worlds: original collector-grade care, a
compelling selection of premium sought-after options, and
mind-melting performance with the roof raised or lowered. However,
its exceptionally brief unplanned excursion in 2025 gives its next
owner the freedom to enjoy this no-holds-barred supercar on
frequent spirited drives on a favorite canyon road or on the
racetrack for which it was precisely engineered.
