With a price nearly double that of Plymouth’s least expensive model, only 3,443 of these 4-door woody wagons were produced for 1949, accounting for less than 1% of Plymouth’s total production that year. This particular 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Woody Station Wagon has benefited from an extensive frame-off restoration, with virtually every component having been rebuilt, restored, or replaced. The end result is a very well-presented example of one of Plymouth’s most distinctive postwar automobiles. Under the hood is the correct-style 218ci inline 6-cylinder flathead engine topped with a single-barrel carburetor. These engines were rated at approximately 97 horsepower when new and are known for their smooth, dependable operation. The 218ci straight-six is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission operated through the classic column-mounted “3-on-the-tree” shifter. Exhaust exits through a single exhaust system, giving this flathead-six Plymouth that unmistakable vintage sound. With its extremely limited production, extensive restoration, real wood-bodied styling, and classic postwar design, this 1949 Plymouth Woody Station Wagon is a unique piece of American automotive history that you simply don’t see very often.
