Engine No. 6390629 (Matching per Porsche Classic Technical
Certificate)
Transmission No. 7393002 (Matching per Porsche Classic Technical
Certificate)
Completed November 1968
A remarkably well-documented and distinctive early 911S, this 1969
Porsche 911S Coupe combines 53 years of single-family California
ownership, a matching-numbers drivetrain, rare factory
competition-oriented equipment, and special-order Paint-to-Sample
Zinc Yellow paintwork. Factory finished in Zinc Yellow (6861) over
Black leatherette, the car was further specified with option 9369
Special Paintwork, left and right Recaro sport seats, the desirable
9040 Special Ratio Gearbox for Fast Circuits, tinted side glass,
tinted windshield, tinted rear window, sealed-beam headlights, and
a stainless-steel muffler skirt. The surviving September 1969 Otto
Glckler sales invoice describes the exterior color as RAL 1018
Ferrari Yellow, providing remarkable period documentation of this
unusual factory-ordered paint specification.
The Zinc Yellow exterior is said to have been refinished in the
mid-1990s and today retains the charismatic, honest presentation of
a Porsche that has been preserved rather than comprehensively
restored. Its Black leatherette interior is highlighted by the
highly desirable factory Recaro sport seats, while the cabin
retains the purposeful layout and instrumentation characteristic of
the early 911S. Period-style details include a leather-wrapped
three-spoke steering wheel and Blaupunkt radio. Refinished anodized
Fuch wheels are wrapped in Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tires
(185/70VR15). The undercarriage remains well preserved with no
indication of rust or accident damage.
The provenance is equally compelling. Period German registration
paperwork identifies Otto Glckler Automobil-Verkaufs-GmbH of
Frankfurt as the registered holder, while a surviving
deregistration document records the Porsche being taken out of
service on September 12, 1969. An original Otto Glckler invoice
dated September 11, 1969, documents its sale to Rudolf W. Niemi of
Danville, California, listing chassis 119300422, engine 6390629,
transmission 7393002, Recaro sport seats, special transmission,
tinted glass, and a purchase price of DM 24,420. A period Porsche
dealer record dated November 26, 1968, likewise, records the
chassis and drivetrain numbers along with its special
equipment.
As recounted by the family, Niemi was a pilot for Pan American
Airways and collected the Porsche in Frankfurt with his wife before
driving it through Italy and subsequently shipping it home to
California. The Porsche remained with the same California family
from 1969 until 2022, passing to Niemi's son in 2015. A January 15,
1971, California ownership receipt in Rudolf William Niemi's name
provides further period evidence of its early California history.
After an extraordinary 53 years of single-family ownership, the car
was sold to its second owner in 2022. Significant mechanical
attention followed in 2022. In May, PPM German Autowerk removed the
front brake calipers for rebuilding by PMB Performance, installed
new front brake pads, flushed and bled the hydraulic system with
high-temperature brake fluid, and replaced the rear sway-bar and
drop-link bushings. The invoice for this work totaled
$2,262.92.
Beginning in July 2022, the car underwent an extensive
recommissioning at De Jung Motorsport, documented by a 16-page
repair order totaling $21,950.41. Work included removal of the
engine and transaxle; clutch replacement; flywheel resurfacing;
replacement of the transaxle mainshaft seal; front shock and
wheel-bearing service; replacement of brake hoses and a
hydraulic-system flush; fuel-hose replacement; removal,
preparation, and refinishing of the fuel tank and front trunk;
hand-throttle and shift-coupler bushing service; ignition-system
work including an MSD unit and ignition wire set; tachometer
repair; installation of front seat-belt assemblies; and a final
valve adjustment, spark-plug replacement, ignition-timing check,
and road testing.
Mechanically, the matching-numbers 2.0-liter flat-six features
Bosch mechanical fuel injection and was rated at 170 hp when new.
It is paired with its matching Type 901 five-speed transaxle
equipped with the optional Fast Circuit gear ratios, a particularly
desirable piece of the car's original factory specification.
Complete with owner's and repair manuals, toolkit, jack, Porsche
Classic Technical Certificate, original German Kraftfahrzeugbrief,
original 1969 German deregistration document, September 11, 1969
Otto Glckler sales invoice, November 26, 1968 Otto
Glckler/Porsche dealer record, January 15, 1971 California
registration/ownership receipt, and additional service records,
this special-order Zinc Yellow 911S presents an exceptionally
compelling combination of documented provenance, long-term
California ownership, matching-numbers mechanicals, rare factory
Recaro sport seats, and the desirable special-ratio gearbox.
