For Sale: 1950 John Deere Tractor in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1950 John Deere Model A Tractor

"John Deere, an American blacksmith and inventor, founded our company in 1837 in Grand Detour, Illinois. We're proud to have helped build America over the past two centuries by supporting farmers, ranchers, and construction crews - equipping them to feed, clothe, pave, plant, grow, harvest, and build our country from the ground up. Literally. We look forward to carrying forward our founder's legacy of ingenuity as we continue building - and investing in - America. We were born here, and we're here to stay." From deere.com

For consignment, a 1950 John Deere Model A tractor which has been fully restored and now includes power steering and a 3 point hitch.

Exterior
This narrow front tractor includes a pair of wedged 16-inch wheels up front and 38-inch in back, in John Deere Yellow with classic contrast to the John Deere Green body and everything from the radiator grille to the clutch case to the seat frame and steering column wear the color. About the only thing that veers from the green is the muffler rising from the hood. A wooden plank is found behind the hitch and the seat pad is a padded square of black vinyl. A three spoke steering wheel presents to the operator and white faced John Deere gauges present cleanly. John Deere decals on side and front are crisp and a model A decal also is attached and clean.

Drivetrain
The tractor is powered by a 321ci 2 cylinder "Johnny Popper" engine, rated at 38 horsepower and fueled through a 1-barrel carburetor. It has a 6-speed manual transmission and power is routed to the big wheels in back through 3.78 gears. The tractor runs on a 6 volt system. Some components show use and time through some surface rust, but the engine compartment is clean. Our consignor reports that the pistons, rings, valves, valve seats and rear axle seals are newer.

Undercarriage
Single exhaust is routed through the top of the tractor and for brakes, mechanical drums are present on the rear wheels.

According to Americanhistory.si.edu, "Agriculture is a significant part of American history, and nothing is more symbolic of farming than a tractor in front of a red barn. In the 1950's and 1960's tractor use had successfully displaced mules and horses. Manufacturers refined the equipment, adding new technology like three point hitches and power take offs, (to power auxiliary equipment)." Here's a fantastic part of that history; a running and operating Model A from 1950 that's ready for presentation at a county fair near you!
