Memphis Audio Bluetooth sound system with four speakers, subwoofer,
and amplifier
This 1986 Jeep CJ-7 combines the unmistakable personality of a
classic CJ with V8 power, a frame-off rebuild, upgraded suspension,
modern air conditioning, and a long list of functional off-road
equipment. Finished in bright red with Renegade-style graphics and
contrasting black trim, it has the stance and presentation expected
from a properly built CJ.
Powertrain & Mechanical
Under the hood is a Chevrolet 350 V8 paired with a 4-speed manual
transmission. The engine is equipped with a Holley four-barrel
carburetor, aluminum intake manifold, chrome Chevrolet air cleaner,
aftermarket ignition components, and a modern belt-driven
air-conditioning compressor.
An Optima RedTop battery provides dependable starting power, while
an aluminum radiator helps manage engine temperature. Exhaust exits
through a true dual system, giving the Chevrolet V8 the sound
expected from a traditional V8-powered CJ.
Power steering and power-assisted brakes make the Jeep considerably
easier to operate than a basic early CJ, with front disc brakes
providing additional stopping capability.
Suspension & Chassis
A major upgrade is the Skyjacker 4-inch Sport Suspension Lift Kit
utilizing Skyjacker Hydro shocks. The lifted suspension provides
increased ground clearance while creating the aggressive stance
seen in the photos.
The frame-off rebuild is evident underneath, where the painted
chassis, solid axles, suspension components, steering hardware, and
clean body floors are all readily visible. The underside presents
well and reflects the level of work that went into the build.
Wheels, Tires & Off-Road Equipment
The CJ rides on polished Mickey Thompson Classic III wheels wrapped
in 35x12.50R15LT Cooper Discoverer STT Pro mud-terrain tires. The
tires show a 3625 date code, indicating production during the 36th
week of 2025. A matching full-size spare is mounted at the
rear.
The front bumper carries a Smittybilt X20 winch along with Rigid
Industries LED auxiliary lights. LED headlights further improve
nighttime visibility while maintaining the classic round-headlight
appearance.
At the rear is a heavy-duty bumper with a receiver hitch, full-size
spare carrier, and red recovery shackles. Tubular side steps
provide easier entry while complementing the Jeep's lifted
stance.
Exterior
The bright red body is accented by gray and black Renegade-style
graphics, black fender flares, exposed stainless hardware, and a
black textured hardtop. The body-color roll cage is visible through
the side and rear glass and adds to the purpose-built
appearance.
Classic CJ styling remains throughout, including the seven-slot
grille, exposed hood hardware, external door hinges, upright
windshield, rear-mounted spare, and compact short-wheelbase
proportions.
Interior & Comfort
The interior has been refreshed with new upholstery and features a
tilt steering column for improved driving comfort. The modern
air-conditioning system blows cold, making this CJ far more
enjoyable during warm-weather driving.
The sound system has also been upgraded with a Bluetooth-capable
Memphis Audio setup consisting of four speakers, a dedicated
subwoofer, and an amplifier. This provides modern connectivity and
sound quality while retaining the simple, rugged character of the
original Jeep interior.
With its Chevrolet 350 V8, 4-speed manual transmission, Skyjacker
4-inch suspension lift, 35-inch Cooper tires, Mickey Thompson
wheels, Smittybilt winch, Rigid LED lighting, true dual exhaust,
cold A/C, and frame-off restoration, this 1986 CJ-7 delivers an
excellent combination of classic Jeep styling, off-road capability,
and upgraded street manners.
