This 1969 Plymouth GTX delivers the unmistakable presence of a
classic Mopar muscle car with a strong 440ci V8, upgraded
supporting components, and a beautifully finished Jet Black
exterior. Restored under prior ownership, the GTX was reportedly
enjoyed by the same owner for more than 12 years. Its deep black
finish is complemented by bright chrome and stainless trim, GTX
badging, dual chrome mirrors, and an aggressive steel hood fitted
with a fiberglass Hemi-style scoop and hood pins.
Under the hood is a performance-built 440ci V8 rated at
approximately 450 horsepower and topped with dual Edelbrock 650 CFM
four-barrel carburetors. Power is sent through a 727 automatic
transmission with a floor-mounted pistol-grip-style shifter and
back to an 8 3/4-inch Sure Grip rear end with 3.55 gearing. Since
the restoration, ceramic-coated Hedman shorty headers and dual
electric cooling fans have been added. Additional mechanical
upgrades include an aluminum radiator, electronic ignition, a
high-torque starter, power steering, and power four-wheel disc
brakes.
The engine compartment presents especially well, with a clean,
detailed appearance and a combination of polished, black, and
orange finishes that suit the character of the car. The aluminum
radiator and electric fans help keep the big-block cool, while the
dual-carburetor setup gives the 440 the visual impact expected from
a serious Mopar build.
Inside, the GTX features a very nice black bucket-seat interior
with a center buddy seat and armrest. The cabin has been refreshed
with newer seat upholstery, door panels, and fitted carpeting while
retaining plenty of period character through its woodgrain trim and
wood-rim steering wheel. White-faced AutoMeter auxiliary gauges
provide additional engine information, and a Bluetooth receiver
with amplifier adds modern audio capability without taking away
from the classic appearance.
The body is reported to retain solid original floors and trunk
structure, with the previous owner stating the car was rust-free
when the restoration was completed. The undercarriage shows
numerous updated suspension components and hardware. Chrome Magnum
500-style wheels complete the exterior presentation and give the
GTX a muscular, period-inspired stance.
With its built dual-quad 440, 727 automatic, Sure Grip rear end,
four-wheel power disc brakes, power steering, upgraded cooling
system, and striking black-on-black presentation, this 1969
Plymouth GTX combines classic B-body styling with a well-rounded
list of performance and drivability upgrades.
