1961 Chevrolet Impala
The 1961 Chevrolet Impala 2 door Sport Coupe hard tops were known as "Bubble Tops" due to their thin roof support and large wrap around rear window, Only the large model Chevrolet Impala 2 door hard tops had this design feature and only in 1961. This super nice 1961 Impala is owned by the widowed wife of my good friend Tommy. Tommy was a retail manufacturing jewel in the Jackson MS area for many years. He died after a long illness. His wife does not drive the car and has decided to sell it.
We know some prior history on the car. The prior owner was a commercial pilot in Idaho. He bought the car in 2008. He kept the car until May 2016 when Tommy bought the car. The Idaho owner, William, said he drove the car several hundred miles in his eight years of ownership. During that time, he serviced it, had new exhaust put on it, had the wheels powder coated, and installed a new aluminum radiator and shroud. William said a prior owner had done much restoration work on the car to include:
A. Stripping of the body to bare metal and applying a wonderfully nice white paint job. All body panel gaps are very nice and correct.
B. Rebuild of the front suspension, steering and 4-wheel drum brakes; new bearings, bushings, seals and shocks.
C. Complete restoration of the interior with new upholstery, door panels, carpet, correct floor mats and headliner. All gauges, lights, wipers and radio work. The interior appears to have very little wear.
D. The engine shows to be a 1968 large journal Chevrolet 327. We have no history on the engine other than it cranks and runs very well and smoothly. The intake and carburetor have been changed to Edelbrock products. It has a GM HEI distributor and Rams Head heat treated exhaust manifolds. The transmission is a GM Turbo Hydramatic 350. Tommy bought new mufflers in 2016.
E. The bright work and trim on this car is excellent with much being re-chromed in the time before 2008.
The mileage on the car as of 9-17-2026 is 80,867. The mileage when Tommy bought the car was 79,318, meaning the mileage accumulated by Tommy was 1549. William in Idaho put only several hundred miles on the car, meaning that the total mileage in the last 18 years was around 2000 miles.
This is a beautiful dependable, special, rare vehicle. It can be seen, driven and inspected in Ridgeland MS (Central MS where I-20 and I-55 corss). I am helping my friend sell the car and I can answer questions. I am:
