In 1994, Porsche announced the 993. Produced for only a few years, the 993 proved to be the last of the air-cooled Porsches with increased performance, improved handling, and greater luxury than ever before. The first 911 with a multi-link rear suspension, the 993 was available in coupe, cabriolet, and Targa (now with a power-retracting glass panel rather than the previous removable top insert) and with a choice of rear or all wheel drive. A new six-speed manual or optional Tiptronic automatic transmission further allowed buyers to choose the best car for their needs.
Revisions also included the suspension, with Porsche continuing to develop the vehicle to further reduce lift-off oversteer. Exterior details were also changed to bring the car's appearance into line with period expectations. With all of these improvements, it’s no wonder enthusiasts and collectors instantly fell in love with the 993.
