When BMW unleashed the E60 M5 on the world in late 2004, the M division did something that, in hindsight, was mildly insane: they built a saloon with an engine drawn straight from their BMW Williams F1 adventure. It was Jeremy Clarkson, the messiah of the motoring world, who once described this car as something between a gentleman and a lunatic. And he was right. From the outside, a proper business saloon in Silverstone II Metallic, a colour that looks calm in daylight and only truly comes alive the moment the sun catches it. From the inside, a dashboard with a start button and that legendary SMG transmission, with which you shift like half a racing driver on track and swear like a whole human being in traffic.
