2004 Chevrolet SSR Convertible For Sale The 2004 Chevrolet
SSR is one of the more unusual vehicles General Motors ever put
into series production: a two-seat, rear-drive convertible pickup
with a power-retractable hardtop, styled after Chevrolet's 1947 to
1955 Advance Design trucks and built on modern truck architecture.
This example shows only 31,000 miles and is finished in Slingshot
Yellow, one of the colors most closely associated with the model.
It spent its life in Texas until 2023, so it carries the
dry-climate history buyers look for on these.Power comes from the
5.3L Vortec V8 rated at 300 horsepower, paired with a four-speed
automatic. The build tag shows a limited-slip rear axle with 3.73
gears, which is the right combination for a truck of this weight
and keeps both rear tires working under throttle. The 5.3 was used
only for the 2003 and 2004 model years before Chevrolet moved to
the 6.0L LS2 for 2005, making this the original specification for
the platform. Underneath is a body-on-frame chassis shared in
principle with the TrailBlazer EXT, giving the SSR a planted,
substantial feel rather than a sports car ride. The truck has just
had an oil change and is ready to be driven. The signature feature
is the two-piece power hardtop, which folds into the area behind
the cab in roughly twenty seconds and operates as intended here.
That system is worth confirming on any SSR, since the hydraulics
and position sensors are a known wear point at this age. The cargo
bed is covered by a body-color hard tonneau and includes lockable
storage compartments, giving the SSR something most convertibles do
not have: secure, weather-protected storage. The truck also carries
the factory sport suspension package, and rides on staggered
factory wheels measuring 19x8 up front and 20x10 in the rear, an
unusual setup for anything wearing a pickup bed.Inside, the SSR
runs body-color accents through the console against a
retro-influenced gauge cluster and center stack. This one is
equipped with heated leather seating, the Bose premium audio
system, and the satin chrome engine cover insert that dresses up
the engine bay to match the rest of the presentation.Chevrolet
built the SSR at the Lansing Craft Centre, a low-volume specialty
facility, and produced roughly 24,150 examples across all four
model years before the line ended in 2006. The model debuted as a
concept at the 2000 North American International Auto Show and
paced the 2003 Indianapolis 500. Two decades on, low-mileage,
rust-free examples in the launch-era colors are the ones drawing
attention.NFI Empire specializes in classic, exotic, modified, and
