1980 Chevrolet Malibu For Sale This 1980 Chevrolet Malibu
is a black-on-black two-door built as a straightforward street car
around a 355 cubic-inch small block. The VIN decodes to a
V8-equipped Malibu sport coupe assembled at Chevrolet's Leeds,
Missouri plant, originally fitted with the 305. What's in it now is
a considerably more serious combination, put together with an
emphasis on usable power rather than show-car detailing. The 355 is
topped with an Edelbrock Victor Jr intake manifold and a Holley
carburetor breathing through a K&N air cleaner, with MSD
ignition handling spark. Spent gases exit through long tube headers
into Flowmaster mufflers. The Victor Jr is a single-plane design
that favors mid and upper rpm airflow, so this is an engine built
to come alive when it's revved rather than one tuned for quiet
idling manners. Behind it is a TH350 three-speed automatic shifted
by a Hurst unit on the floor, with 3.73 gears out back. That axle
ratio is a sensible pairing with the three-speed, keeping the car
responsive off the line while staying reasonable at
cruise.Underneath, the car runs front disc brakes with drilled and
slotted rotors and drums at the rear. It sits on 15-inch American
Racing wheels in a staggered setup, 235/60s up front and 275/60s at
the rear, which puts the meat where it's needed for a rear-drive
small block car and gives it a period-correct stance. The interior
is black with bench seating, kept simple and consistent with the
rest of the build. An AutoMeter Sport tachometer is mounted on the
steering column, with additional AutoMeter gauges for water
temperature and oil pressure so the driver has direct eyes on the
engine's vitals.The 1980 Malibu came from the downsized A-body
generation, a platform Chevrolet shrank significantly from the
earlier Chevelle while keeping the traditional rear-drive,
body-on-frame layout. That combination of lighter weight, small
block friendliness, and shared architecture with the Monte Carlo,
Regal, and Cutlass made these cars a favorite canvas for exactly
this kind of build, and the aftermarket support behind them remains
deep. This one is set up for someone who wants a black G-body with
a carbureted small block, a shifter in their hand, and no pretense
about being anything other than a driver.NFI Empire specializes in
