For Sale: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1969 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

The sales brochure in 1969 claimed that the car had a gauge "for everything but your blood pressure". "Tachometer, ammeter, oil pressure, sweep second rally clock, fuel gauge, mileage and trip odometer, warning lights for seat belts, headlight position and door ajar. The center console houses fingertip controls for the heater, defroster, radio, vents, ashtray, cigarette lighter, shift lever and parking brake, plus an engine rating plate and softly glowing space age fiber optics that monitor outside running lights."

For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette coupe showing 98,353 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This is a stunning, numbers matching example with an L46 350ci engine under the hood with 350 horsepower.

Exterior
Eight colors were available in 1969 and this came with paint code 986, otherwise known as Cortez Silver and it's a great color for the car, here in two stage application. Along with the chrome and stainless features, the silver blends to create a uniquely monochromatic profile while still highlighting iconic features such as the side gills, the sculpted hood, and flying buttresses, and coke bottle shape. Fenders arch over the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels and the gently molded rear spoiler that ends up flaring the rear fascia around circle taillights and the Corvette lettering between them. Out back, bonus features include chrome exhaust tips through polished bezels and a shiny luggage rack on the rear deck to assist with road trips. Imperfections include a gap issue on the T-tops, and minor chips, scratches and scuffs.

Interior
Buyers could select from eight interior colors too and the original owner checked the box for an interior with monochromatic black coverage that is a fine choice. It begins on the plastic molded door panels with vinyl inserts to soften things up a bit. Leather buckets soften things even more, sporty for the time, and including head restraints and both present nicely with some minor patina creases. The steering wheel is also consistent with the times and this one's been wrapped, leading to black faced gauges including a speedometer that reaches 160mph. Black plastic surrounds the vast gauge package in the center stack which is followed by an AM/FM radio, indicator lights, then the center console itself, all with some typical patina. This has the vent controls, shift diagram, spec plate, and of course, the shifter itself, in this case, leather handled with a red center cap bearing the crossed flag emblem. Black carpet covers the floor and the rear cargo area in very good condition.

Drivetrain
Here we have the numbers matching 350ci L46 V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and 350 horsepower. It's backed by the numbers matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual that sends power to the rear axle with 3.36 gears.

Undercarriage
Driver quality but clean with the typical surface rust and oxidation. Here the dual exhaust is heat wrapped most of the way, and intersects a pair of stock style mufflers before exiting through the trimmed cutouts of the rear apron. Disc brakes are at all four wheels and a fully independent suspension with frame anchored differential unit and transverse leaf springs help keep the rear planted and coil springs live up front.

Drive-Ability
She fires right up and glides across the test loop like a silver streak, emitting good power, a nice sound, and a race-inspired cockpit. We note the car pulls right when braking, there's a rattle coming from the rear suspension, the wipers are not working even as we can manually open the cowl, and the radio is not working. Beyond these things, all functions work as they should and we're ready to put this fine '69 online! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

A fantastic looking Vette with a numbers matching drivetrain and clean inside and out. Pop up headlights, side louvers, T-tops, 2-stage paint, and a luggage rack. This one checks more boxes than you probably have on your wish list.
