This 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS is an exceptionally clean,
low-mileage example of Chevrolet's legendary full-size performance
sedan. Finished in classic Black over Gray leather and showing
approximately 37,000 miles, it combines the understated appearance
of the B-body Impala with the performance hardware that made the
final-generation Impala SS one of the most memorable American
performance sedans of the 1990s.
Originally sold new in Georgia, the Impala remained with its
longtime original registered owner until 2024 and is now a
two-owner vehicle. The accompanying CARFAX reports no accidents or
damage, along with eight recorded service-history entries.
Under the hood is Chevrolet's 5.7-liter LT1 V8, featuring
sequential fuel injection and backed by the 4L60E four-speed
automatic transmission. Power is delivered to the rear wheels
through a limited-slip differential, giving the Impala the proper
rear-wheel-drive performance character that helped make these cars
so desirable.
This example has also received a few carefully selected performance
upgrades, including a JET Performance ECU chip and an ATR
performance exhaust system. The combination complements the LT1
without taking away from the character of the car.
The Impala SS received substantial chassis upgrades from Chevrolet
compared with a standard Caprice, including its lower sport-tuned
suspension, heavy-duty dampers, larger four-wheel disc brakes and
performance-oriented wheel-and-tire package. This car retains its
distinctive 17-inch polished five-spoke SS alloy wheels, giving it
the unmistakable stance associated with the 1994-1996 Impala
SS.
The exterior is finished in the model's signature Black and
features the proper SS-specific single-bar grille, rear decklid
spoiler, quarter-panel Impala SS badging and dual turn-down exhaust
outlets. The restrained monochromatic styling remains one of the
defining characteristics of the final B-body Impala SS.
Inside, the cabin is upholstered in Gray leather with deeply
bolstered front sport seats and SS-embroidered headrests. The
dashboard, carpeting, center console and door panels retain the
factory gray color scheme, while faux-wood trim provides the
distinctive upscale appearance used in these cars.
Comfort and convenience equipment includes air conditioning, cruise
control, tilt steering, power windows, power door locks and power
mirrors. Entertainment is handled by a CD stereo with the addition
of a Kicker subwoofer mounted in the trunk.
Instrumentation includes the desirable 160-mph speedometer,
tachometer, coolant-temperature gauge and fuel gauge, reinforcing
that this was far more than simply an appearance package.
The sale includes the owner's manual, documentation and spare
parts, adding to the appeal of this well-kept example.
With just 37k miles, two-owner history, a clean CARFAX, the LT1 V8,
limited-slip rear differential and tasteful performance upgrades,
this 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS represents an increasingly
difficult-to-find example of Chevrolet's iconic 1990s muscle
sedan.
