DESCRIPTION:
Here is a rare opportunity to own a true piece of Hot Rod history as one of the first Pro Street builds to set the trend starting in the 1980’s. This 1989 Chevrolet Beretta was built by Rich and Jacklyn Gebhardt in 1988. The car was originally built to be a Reher – Morrison Pro Stock race car, but due to a wheelbase measurement being too long, NHRA would not allow the car to run. That’s when the Gebhardt’s purchased the Beretta. Rich originally had it powered by a V6 with a 4-speed Lenco transmission. It now boasts a 572 cu. in. all aluminum supercharged big block Chevy putting out about 1000 rwhp!! The owner history is believed to be 7 and it ranged from being a Pro Street to a bracket racer and then finally back on the street.

This Beretta is fully street legal with a clear title and VIN number. The current build was completed less than 2 years ago with a new engine rebuilt transmission, cooling & fuel system, tires, and wheels.
The bodywork and candy tangerine urethane paint are 30+ years old. It does show some age, but for show purposes it looks fantastic. The roof and rear quarter panel sections are steel. Everything else is fiberglass. All the windows are glass and in excellent condition. The passenger and driver’s windows are power operated. Since it is street legal all lights, turn signals, and brake lights function. The fiberglass front-end, hood, and trunk lid are held on with ‘Zeus’ fasteners. The doors can easily be removed from their hinges.
The 572 cu. in. all aluminum ‘high deck’, supercharged, and fuel injected big block Chevy engine has been tuned to run on E85 fuel. Compression ratio is about 9.8:1, with electronic ignition, Fuel Tech fuel injection system with 3 electric pumps sitting on a BDS 10:71 supercharger and Brodex aluminum heads. The cooling system uses a custom made aluminum radiator with electric fans which keeps the Beretta in the 190 degree area on hot summer days. The owner said it runs cooler if the hood is off. As you can see and hear in the video, it sounds awesome.
The transmission is a 2-speed Power Glide with a manual valve body and 4800 rpm stall converter.
The ‘all tube’ Pro Stock chassis was built by Ken Ness using tubular ‘A’ arms up front with rack & pinion steering, 4-link Fab 9” Ford rear with 4:88 gears and Strange 31 spline axles. Four-wheel disc brakes provide the stopping power while the wheels are “One Off” custom made 15” Bogarts 25.0/4.0/15 Front Runner tires and Hoosier 33/22.5/15 DOT drag radials.
The interior is all business with sheet metal fabricated door panels and floors. The dashboard houses just the necessary gauges such as boost, water temperature, and oil pressure. While the Fuel Tech screen mounted on the steering column provides additional feedback through the O2 sensors in the exhaust system. The water temperature gauge in the dash does not work, but the one on the Fuel Tech instrument panel does and is more accurate. You will also notice an Auto Meter gauge panel mounted in the engine compartment showing a tachometer, oil pressure, and water temperature.
