One of approximately two hundred and thirty-five Carrera 2000 GS Coupes produced for the world, finished in Signal Red with Black upholstery. According to the Porsche Kardex Amag, Switzerland delivered the Carrera 2 to Herbert Hoffmann on September 1, 1962, originally finished in Ivory with a Black interior with mouse-Grey Corduroy inserts. The original four-cam Carrera 2L engine was No. 97078, but is no longer with the 356. Documented ownership history spanning over five decades with five owners from new; this is a running and driving example and is a genuine four-cam-designated Carrera 2 chassis.

The Signal Red exterior presents well throughout and is complemented by chrome brightwork and 4.5 x 15 Lemmerz wheels mounted with 165 80-15 tires. The Carrera 2 also retains its factory Eberspcher gas heater. The interior includes a VDM Carrera wooden steering wheel, VDO Carrera instrumentation with a 160 mph speedometer, an 8000 RPM tachometer, fuel and temperature gauges, and a clock.

The earliest documented provenance begins on May 15, 1968, when Forellensee-Garage AG sold the Carrera 2 to Charly Werren for 8,000 francs. One month later, the Carrera 2 returned to the selling dealer for service, with records noting the removal of the engine for piston and cylinder work. In October 1968, Charles Longsworth acquired it and later imported the Carrera 2 to Massachusetts. Alice and David Klingener acquired the Carrera 2 in 1971 and owned it until 1979, when they sold it to Leonard Pratt, also of Massachusetts.

By the late 1970s, the original four-cam Carrera engine had been removed. The Carrera 2 is currently powered by a 912 (Type 616/36) 1600cc flat-four engine, No. 746194, paired with the matching 4-speed manual transmission and four-wheel disc brakes. Mr. Pratt was the long-term custodian from 1979 until 2026. During his ownership, the Carrera 2 spent an extended period off the road before a recommissioning effort was undertaken between 2008 and 2014. Receipts on file document both cosmetic and mechanical work performed during this period to return the Carrera 2 to running and driving condition after long-term storage.

Offered today as a running and driving 356B Carrera 2000 GS accompanied by incredible early correspondence with Bosch and the Porsche factory, handwritten bills of sale, ownership records, and 58 years of documented history. This 356B is a limited-production Carrera 2000 GS; its five-owner provenance, long-term Massachusetts ownership, and extensive historical file provide a strong foundation for continued preservation or restoration, including the possibility of ultimately reuniting the chassis with a four-cam Carrera engine.
