1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

The Camaro received minor changes for its second year with the grille taking on a more horizontal look and the vent windows were dropped while flow through ventilation was added. 235,147 Camaros were built in 1968 with nearly 17,000 V8 convertibles and another 12,000 six cylinder topless cars. That's a lot of cars in just the second year of production indicating Chevrolet's confidence and the public's positive reaction. Interestingly, the convertible tops were available in the same color options as the vinyl tops; white, black, and blue.

For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro convertible with the true mileage unknown due to a non calibrated odometer. There's less than 100 miles, according to our consignor, on the built L88 427 under the hood and that's just the tip of the iceberg for this muscle car.

Exterior
This car went from British green to French Blue; Lemans Blue Metallic to be exact, here in two stage richness and a white nose stripe for dramatic contrast behind the RS headlight covers and black grille. The black latch panel is also a nice contrast and complements the canvas top and also the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels, painted black and wearing chrome hubcaps. A combination of cowl hood, rear spoiler, and raised rump creates an aggressive looking pony car, one with the guts to back up the posture. The chrome, body and paint are in great shape. Imperfections noted are few and include a few chips, a single scratch, and some minor inclusions.

Interior
At first glance, it's got the factory look on the inside, beginning with clean black door panels with molded armrests and a crank for the window. Black vinyl buckets seats live up front with a bench in the back and all appear clean and intact. Control central is headed by a GT steering wheel in front of that instrument cluster that now houses new Dakota digital gauges backlit in blue. A woodgrain applique covers the center stack where you'll find the vent levers and three introduced gauges where a radio would be, followed by the Holley Sniper screen. A Hurst shifter rises from the transmission hump over black looped carpet in nice shape. The trunk is clean and ready for luggage with a fitted charcoal mat.

Drivetrain
Here's where the rubber hits the road with the massive 427ci V8 under the hood; bored .060 over, with a forged steel crank ,Wiseco pistons, Eagle SIR rods, Howards cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM Marine heads and a Holley Sniper EFI system, all good for a consignor stated 550 horsepower. It's mated to a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission that routes power to the Eaton TrueTrac 12 bolt differential with 3.73 gears. The car has headers, power brakes and power steering. The bay is an impressive display of hardware.

Undercarriage
Very clean underneath with minimal and typical surface rust, glossy black coverage on the belly, and clean components. You'll find power disc and power drum brakes split between front and rear and dual exhaust that runs through FlowMaster mufflers before dumping out back. QA1 front coil overs and rear leaf springs make up the suspension components.

Drive-Ability
If sound means anything, this thunderous car means business! It's got obvious power underfoot and thankfully, the brakes work great too! Meanwhile, we note some things that will need attention. The horn, headlight doors, wipers, and reverse lights are not working. The front turn signals only work when the headlight switch is off and the new odometer needs calibrating. Beyond these things, all functions work as they should and we muscle this car back to the mall for some showroom space. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
